We are staying at the Hotel Sheela too, based on IndiaMike and LPs recommendation. We got quoted for November 600 rps for double, with private bathroom no AirCon.

I'll post a review once we've been..

I enjopyed the Sheela some time back. Loved the garden. I don't recall a lot of food, tea and beer. Who knows now? Big, clean bathrooms. Operator was always trying to sell something but he didn't try it with me. Recommended as a good value..

U may check out Hotel Taj Khema. It next to Hotel Sheela & a UP tourism property. The view from the lawn of the hotel is fabulous. The hotel has an uniterupted view of the Taj (a mere 300 mtrs. away). The rooms are big (but not so professional service, government staffs, u know...).

I hv stayed at the property in mid-Feb this year & quite liked the location.

Special Place

I was lucky enough to stay at the Amar Villas..if you do some searching you could get a good rate- it takes time. The hotel is one of the Taj group and if stars went as high could be classified as 6. If budget doesn't allow, go for a drink or tea..the view of the Taj Mahal is beath-taking. If you stay there, they take you in little golf carts, so you miss the crowds. We skimpted on other hotels in India so we could experience this fantastic hotel..it added to the experience of visiting the Taj.

It looks amazing - I wish! We are booked into the Amar Yatri Niwas - quite near the Taj, but no views or anything. 2000r for the 3 of us for a deluxe double, extra bed, breakfast and taxes - not bad. They responded quickly and seem nice. We're planning to eat dinner with a view of the Taj and get up early to see it at dawn.

Stayed there with family few years back...Don't remember the rates exactly, however it was end of August and we had 2 rooms. I guess we paid Rs.750 per room.

Its centrally air conditioned, at that time I found it to be quite nice !!
