Buying train tickets on Agra Train station
Hi guys,
We need some advice from you :
We will go to Agra with a train tomorrow and would like to buy train tickets from Agra to Gwalior for the next day on Agra station, when we arrive. Where is the counter for tickets in Agra and how long is it open ?( we need normal cheap blue second class sleeper, no TQ - it is just 1,5 hour.)
I assume, we do not need to go to tourist office?
And another question - if we don t get the reserved tickets, can we just go on train and sit on our bags - and buy a ticket on the train?
Thanks a lot for your help in advance,
Barbara

Hi Barbara,
Generally its difficult to get a SL (Sleeper) ticket because these are for long distance trains. You can buy a General ticket. There are a couple of unreserved compartments in most trains. However there is a huge rush for seats and its often overcrowded.
There are ticket counters inside the station premises where you can buy the tickets there.
You can buy the tickets today or tomorrow. Reservations between any two stations can be done in any station counter.
There are even Reservation counters in many parts of the city where you can do a reservation beforehand.

Hi,
Thank you for your answer. I looked on the internet and there are few trains available from Agra to Gwalior. Well, I do not really need a sleeper ticket, is there any other seating option?
So if I understand you correctly, general ticket is a ticket with no seat reservation?

You can try Taj Express leaving Agra Cantonment at 10:30 and reaching Gwalior at 11:55 in 2nd Seating. As of now there are 167 seats available for Saturday 9th November.
I think this will be too early, because wa are going to see Taj in the morning, so the train must be after 2 p.m. or so.
And yes, we will try also Tourist quota, if nothing else is awailable, although I don t like TQ, but for emergencies is OK. Normaly we are not in a hurry like that, we just don,t want to stay in Agra more than necessary. I am sure we will somehow arrive to Gwalior, then we can stay as lon we like....

There are also SL seats available in Patalkot Express departing AGC at 16:20.
The East / West Gate ticket counter opens at 5:30 am. Try to be inside the complex by around 6:00-6:30. 2 hours 30 minutes - 3 hours is good enough time to see Taj Mahal. You will be in time to take the Taj Express.

Yes Patalkot Exp at 16.20 was also my choice. Hope that ticket will be still available tomorrow. We could buy them also on New Delhi station, before we depart tomorrow at 2 p.m., but buying tickets on ND station is always such a nightmare.
