Off to agra next weekend with 3 friends and have a few questions regarding auto prices. we're getting the train from delhi to agra cantonment station - does anyone know how much should we pay to get an auto from the station to the taj? and also how much from the taj to the fort? am i right in thinking that only autos and other 'green' transport are allowed in the taj mahal area because of pollution?

Well, places around the Taj and Agra Fort being touristy areas, they always seem to charge around 50% extra, that's what they tried to do with me when I went back in 2004. If you can't speak the local language or look foreign, obviously you are more prone to being ripped off. But as they say, you can find some good people who won't rip you off. You'll also notice these people trying to take you to souvenir stores, so if that's not your thing, just be stern and assertive to them not to lead you to any store, if you are the passive type, just pay them the extra money not to take you to the stores. I was very annoyed during my last trip, because I had a long day, and wouldn't want to wish it upon anyone. Except for maybe one of my uncles.

There's a prepay autorickshaw booth at Agra Cantt station .Price to Taj was Rs50 when I was there in April.(getting that fare back is a different matter....)
There's a bus between the Taj and the Fort.
An Auto should be no more than Rs25.
I walked it in 30 mins through the riverside gardens.Recommended.

It's like about 2 kilometres isn't it? If I had the time, I'd surely do that. But I'm only spending one afternoon in Agra, just for the Taj and the Fort, so maybe next time. The Yamuna is quite dry during February, isn't it?
