Hippie Trail via VW Bus. We were stopped along the road buying some fruit from some kids. This shot was submitted about a year ago but I have come up with a 1000X better scan so I am introducing it again. It was taken 36 years ago November 1970 somewhere in Eastern Syria (or Turkey) along the Iraq border heading north up into Iran and on to India. Top speed 35 mph no heat its winter time. There were 5 of us in the van. One Canadian (myself), one American BILL, one Dutchman HANS, one Englishman ? and a German named Werner who did not speak English. We lost another Canadian at the Turlish Syrian border because the Syrians thought he was a Jew, His last name was Cohen. He was a Presbyterian from Toronto. We had to leave him at the border.No one new each other longer than 2 hours before we got in the van in Istanbul. The reason we are heading north from Damascus is because we were refused a visa into Iraq. We had an American and and a German with us (no entry at this time for them) The trip took 3 1/2 months to Goa.
