This is a causway in the northern most area of Sri Lanka. About 100 miles from India Tamil Nadu. It is a road/causway that runs 10 KM South west out of Jaffna to the Island of Kytes a scene of many battles between the Sri Lankan Army and the Tamil Tigers. Notice the kid with a bicycle load of wood. and the building on the left is a Sri Lankan Army checkpoint. There are a lot of Tamil Tigers in the area who oppose the government. And something you may have missed an electrical line which basically is a 10 Km long extension cord sometimes 4 to 5 feet off the ground held up by sticks. There are several hundred people on the Island and as you guessed are subjected to many power cuts.
This photo was taken in January of 2004. Now it is too dangerous for anyone other than native to enter this area as the 25 year long war ramps up again.
