Puducherry nee Pondicherry...!

If you are interested in Community Living, then maybe Pondicherry, now called Puducherry, is a good idea...

But most of the 'community' in Pondicherry was made ages back and am not very sure if outsiders are always welcome to join in at any point of time... There is ofcourse 'how' you plan to contribute to the community living, not in terms of money, but in terms of your professional output to whatever profession you would like to contribute to raise the overall standards of the community...!

Hope that doesnt sound Greek, because when I read it back, it sure did to me...!!!

Cheers...!

Wink sadhus welcome, sybarites not in Himalayan kingdom

Seems like all you guys are a bunch of loaded, sybaritic idealists. Today the local people of Uttarakhand do not think their place is heaven as job opportunities are few and most of them have to migrate to the towns in search of work and sustenance. But Uttarakhand was a beautiful, prosperous kingdom when it was ruled by kings prior to the British takeover in 1815. It can still regain its former glory if monarchy is reinstalled there.
But then a new king may not like so many sybaritic outsiders settling in his kingdom and may decide to kick all of them out. Just think about that....You can all stay if you live like sadhus of course and do not flash your wealth in the face of the locals conspicuously. Genuine sadhus, artists, writers and inspired muses are always welcome in any kingdom. More power to you if you fall in this category! Tulsi

Ah you are missing out one vital point here that is ask the locals what they thought of their lives under the King.
Here is just a little of what I know - The area did not develop at all - the first road to Uttarkashi was opened in 1972 (well after independence and under the rule of a democratic government) - till then people had to walk all the way from Rishikesh to Uttarkashi and bring up all that was needed on mules - not a very easy way of living is it? The king was supposed to be so oppressive that people were scared of wearing new clothes or shoes because the king would send his strongmen to take them away (the mentality still pervades the older generation)- the poverty and underdevelopment of Tehri Garhwal area is not because of any other reason but that the king was not foresighted enough. He granted timber and hunting contracts to a person like Frederick Wilson who raped the entire Bhagirathi velley cut down all the old growth forests, killed almost to extinction a large number of birds and animals of the area. I doubt if the Garhwalis want to go back to those oppressive days at all.

KNowing the history of the place I think he would welcome them and more so if they served to fill his own personal coffers without paying attention to the needs of his people.

Maharashtra. If ur motto is money, come here! Mumbai is waiting 4u! Mah is the most taxed in India! And is hell lot expensive! For industrial purpose, i would recommend goa or gujrat! There r hell lot opportunities opened for you! Mah is now saturated.. But by far, mah is no.1 state in india! Be it in business, politics, finance, std of living, crime, police etc etc!

Dude, i'm a Raj's fan, and i tell you and every1 who talks about him or party, The ongoing things in mumbai are "SHEER POLITICS" it has nothing to do with the bhaiyas, the muslims nor the maharashtrians! You can take my words as Face value! So, no worries, you can come 2 mumbai! Don't be afraid, but when on streets of mumbai, u should remember not to speak what you spoke in this thread!

So, I can criticize Manmohan, Advani, home minister etc etc, or anybody for that matter but should be careful to open my mouth against Raj, wow! So much for Mumbai being a good place to live. Anyway, you being a Raj fan should have been enough to deter me from posting which I will take note of.
Btw, Livin is a dudesse

Two things before I answer that
1. The moderator just commented on your sms speak please desist from using it.
2. it is not dude it is babe

now - you may be a fan of Raj but I am not and do not trust people who spout speeches that promote division of my country on the basis of whatever. I am intelligent enough to know exactly where this is coming from. So thank you for your invitaiton not interested!

Mod Note
And by the way the interdiction on SMS still holds good as mentioned previously. Please do not use SMS. That means that instead of writing "2" you should write "to" and "everyone" not "every1". Is it so very difficult?
Further posts in SMS will be deleted.

Can we keep this politics off the site? If not voluntarily, the mods are unlikely to allow a discussion on this particular controversy.

Would you also please not that we discourage the use of SMS abbreviations. Please do not do it.
