I love rains in WB. I have heard Kerala looks almost the same. But mosquitos?!? mmm byproduct, can't avoid. For that lash green landscapes I can withstand almost anything.

No state comes anywhere close to being as lush green on the green-o-meter as Kerala always has been...
Period.

Cheers...!

nick-h, what are you waiting for?
I am very happy with the climate here --- I flew South from London!

So far as the migration to Kerala is concerned... Mrs N is not keen, we have many Kerala relatives, and kerala is not as live-and-let-live as it appears to the visitor. Well, never mind...

There is, of course, a vast amount of rain there too.

So far as the greenometer is concerned, wouldn't somewhere like Darjeeling score the highest? don't they measure their rainfall in metres rather than cm?

if i had a choice, it would be the two k's - kerala and kashmir - two kinds of paradise. however, i shall be content with kerala and visit kashmir as often as i can. last month in kashmir, i tried to buy somewhere and build a summer home but the situation there is too fraught with troubles, even for a die-hard romantic like me. have shelved those plans for now. i live in hope though.

Yeah...
There are ofcourse pockets in the North-east which get monstrous amounts of rains, regularly, year after year...
But the Green-o-Meter for the entire state of Kerala is just too high on the green scale...!
To figure out what I mean, you just need to take a train ride across Kerala... The moment you enter Kerala from Coimbatore side, there is that sudden change in the air, the greenery becomes denser and greener, and the air cooler...!
You can feel the difference...
Cheers...!

On the contrary Nick there is so much rainfall in these hills that most of the soil washes off and the vegetation cover is not very dense. Now if you were talking of Uttarkashi - well then I will have to put it very high on the greenometer. Moreover it doesn't have the humidity, bugs and mossies of Kerela.

I spent one monsoon in Kerela and never want to spend another - couldn;t sit out as there were a zillion bugs, all my clothes and shoes and everythign else turned mouldy because of humidity - the beds smelled of mould and i was in agony as I am highly allergic to mould - causes asthma attacks!

Oh, god... no place for someone alergic to mould .

TN gets a fraction of the rainfall, and is correspondingly low on the greenometer, but we have humidity a plenty and mossies a million.

Boats in some parts of Kerala are like cars and bikes on the streets elsewhere, from the single person paddling along, to the marine equivalents of buses. In some ways, it is surprising that we do not hear of more accidents.

Of course, it may well be that they happen, but do not get reported.
