Tamil Nadu...

Can't speak for living in rural TN. So far as Chennai life is concerned, one big plus point is that people are, by majority, accepting, and don't much bother about what is the colour of one's skin, what religion, why married to an Indian. It is still a fairly laid back and easy going city.

Minuses... the fact that people aren't much bothered about anything! ...

Have spent a major part of my life down south...

Talking about Tamil Nadu, I feel Coimbatore is a lovely place too... It's more like Bangalore minus the minuses of Bangalore...! The traffic for one... Coimbatore tilts towards being more cosmopolitan than the supposedly traditional Chennai... So many say, and I agree...
(Not too sure if Nick-H does, though...!)

Being a border district next to Kerala, it has a decent mix of Malayalees too... And that kind of adds to the charm... And its surrounded by hills from three sides...! And Ooty (that horrible overcrowded hill station in the South), is just 90 km away...!

Cheers...!

Oh, Thank you very much!

But remember, I like Chennai's heat. My young wife, on the other hand, would like to live somewhere cooler.

<-- trying to look young here

(but maybe only succeeding in looking like I should be wearing a yellow scarf )

When I think of Kerela all I can think of is mosquitoes and humidity - neither of which I enjoy

Climate-wise, Coimbatore is much better than the rest of Tamil Nadu, as its surrounded by hills from three sides...

Cheers...!

kerala for me is:

unpolluted, natural, not industrialised, people with a 'live and let live' disposition (in my experience), beautiful beaches, fresh sea food, green, green, green

Ooooh la la...!

Sounds exotic, right...?
Spend the four monsoon months in Kerala at a stretch...
And I do hope you have the same views even after that...!

And this is coming from a hard-core Kerala lover...!
Moi...!

Cheers...!

where in the world is perfect all year round? do what the birds do - migrate to a more agreeable clime - when things get rough, which they inevitably do.
