You have gaul to ask that, Captain?
![]() I thought climate would come into this pretty soon. There is a thread on looking for the best place in India to retire to that, err, failed to come to a conclusion --- but you should find it a good starting point! A brief search later... Here it is: Where is the Best Retirement Place in India? But... cool weather throughout the year? You may have picked the wrong country! |

Talking about living standards, my personal choice is Uttaranchal (
) but then I have my standards set at a very low level... basic food, no flashy shopping habits, no need of going to multiplex etc etc. It will again be very personal choice and will vary at different places within a state.

Wow..what a question... No Indian state is fit for a good living,if you think about the governance and administration....
But then I would go..for a cool un-popular small town...or a nice village with calm and serenity. Such nice vilages and towns are spread all over India..but I guess,Uttarkand has a lot..so My vote is for Utttarkand. |

Suggest changing the name of this thread to
What is the name of Uttarakhand/Uttaranchal It's the most concrete conversation the thread so far! The OP's question seems to amount to wantng to live somewhere, errr... nice! |

Gantok in Sikkim; best weather throughtout the year, low crime, good governance (same democratically-elected chief minister since this state became a part of India in 1970s, that tells you a great deal about his work), wonderful views and wonderful local people....

Have to agree with Bullethead, Sikkim is the most developed state over the last 10-15 years and still developing, despite numerous hurdles. Hope things don't change with all the tourism that's happening !!

I so prefer uttaranchal . . . just has a much nicer ring to it
![]() But i guess the giddy politicians have to change the names every 5 years! I would vote for Tamilnadu or Kerela, for the climate, the people and the general feeling of well being . . . that's if Delhi is too much to deal with . . . as i imagine it could be for the newcomer ![]()
