A interesting Question... I doubt that we can even come to a consensus on the answer though.

My vote goes, without a doubt, to Uttarakhand...!

Cheers...!

(For the zillionth time, the name is Uttarakhand and not Uttaranchal)

Otherwise it is an impossible question.

If you talk to living standards then a state is too big an entity to have similiar living conditions throughout. Cities do have better living standards when compared to towns and villages..I would say the state having more number of big cities should stand ahead.
Maharashtra I would say

But I guess Needy has just listed his criteria...

Kerala and West Bengal.

Over and over and over again they head the league tables on best living standard as per this, that, or the other survey.

For some reason... it doesn't necessarily make them good places to live!

You are, if you want an answer, going to have to give us something concrete --- not conceptual.

Maybe I should take this to another thread, but I'd like to know which Indian state has the best government and administration. Which state should one live in if one wants to not have one's nerves ill affected by the daily papers?

Thatz the one precise reason that I chose Uttarakhand...!
Fewer places which get blasted by the media...!

And ofcourse, I admit, I do have a bias for the Himalayas...!

Kerala, without the Communists, would be even better than it already is...!
Aaaahhhh... Sheer Bliss...!

Cheers...!
