Rishikesh or Gangotri in One Week?
Rishikesh or Gangotri in One Week?
hello again
arrive 01 Sept Delhi
to try and do pilgrimage to Gangotri
or stay in Rishikesh....explore 3 days then relax at Dhanaulti
this is a after I have been in Mayapur, near Kolkata for 4 days
then fly to Delhi...Vrindavan for 4 days
so then I want to experience North India, notably Himalaya
with wife and 5 yr old boy....
Any advice
Gangotri seems great ...but long travel and monsoon issues
yet a powerful place...so keen!!!
Rishikesh seems safe bet...and a little holiday in Dhanaulti
many thanx

September is a good time to visit hills. Try to stay in Dhanaulti or any place with an altitude of some 8000 feet, because this will acclamatize you. Though Gangotri also is not at a very high altitude, but I have seen young students suffer from altitude sickness if they rush straight to that place from plains.

still un sure of first week Sept.2010 trip
i def. will visit Rishikesh....then thought Dhanaulti...although sounding really touristy and even a little boring

You may take a chance but do not be certain that you will be able to get a good view in September first week. Best time actually starts from October. If you are not planning for Gangotri then I would suggest you to go to “Khirsu”. It is about four to five hours from Rishikesh and provides one of the most stunning views of Himalayas. However, remember to book GMVN rest house before your visit or from Rishikesh. Sometimes, the joy that the Daybreak brings, is unparalleled!

Hi,A small suggestion, if you are going upto Dhanaulti, dont miss Landour, its a beautiful, quaint little hill town...close t Dhanaulti!!
you can go meet Ruskin Bond as well
!! Cheers,
