Yes excellent Joe, a burden lifted! My PIO is in process at Delhi but they gave me six months extension on my x visa to cover the processing time, our local SP increased that to a year - good man!

Thanks to everyone for the congratulations.
I'm very happy and even feel privileged i got the PIO.

Overseeing the time, the process was slow and frustrating, but once again a good experience.

Keep your cool and never give up.
Avoid steps in between yourself and the source of which you're expecting to fulfill your needs.

In this case i mean, many people want to promise things while thinking they can get some profit out of it. At the end they don't care, so avoid them as much as is possible.

Register your documents everywhere with all stamps and signs.

My first daughter (since 3 months i'm a proud father of two now) was born here in India over 3 years ago.
Because we wanted to apply for a Dutch passport we had to register and legalize our marriage- certificate through the dutch embassy and the MHA. Quite an easy process compared to PIO and useful when applying for it.

Try to stay in touch with Delhi.
A few times i was "invited" by a official to come to Delhi and have a talk about the PIO.
I knew and verified all papers were ok so politely i thanked for the invitation. He probably meant if i had gone there and bribed him/them i had my PIO, cause all formal "paper" arguments were solved.

After that no news, so every now and then i called to remind them.
MHA told me two times the papers were send for verification but no reply from the local FRRO.

Then i send a letter with the faxnr. and some details of the local FRRO i'm dealing with, with the humble request to fax him after two times vainly sending the paperwork. (which is straight Bulls*** i think, but ok...)

After some pushing through post finally someone thought it was time to grant me the PIO.
Two months ago i received a forwarded letter, saying that PIO has been granted and has to be issued IMMEDIATELY after receiving a revalidated demand draft, which i immediately did.

Little over two months later i received my PIO.

Hikkaduwa, Paleface and all others in process of PIO, stay in touch.
I'm curious and interested in your progressions and if you think i can help you somehow please respond or PM me.

Peace

Joseph - finally! This thread is a great read, and I only discovered it today after your post in another one. Perserverance seems to be the key to finally obtaining almost anything official in India - I hope that man, birds, that you have mentioned is well transferred out of The Hague office.

You right, I met the new guy, he seems very nice! The other guy is back in Delhi, I hope not somewhere where he will deal with foreigners or women.

Yeah Joe - put in my PIO application in Delhi in August, my wife was with me so there was no problem with the interview and verification of documents. Had to get my x visa extended by 6 months to allow for processing time, only gave me 3 months in Uttarkashi which runs out in a few days.

This a.m. went to the LIU and have put in the application for another year extension, no problem there and the SP will have the application put in front of him and told to sign. So just waiting on Smt.Dharkat Liuang at MHA Delhi (on long leave she is!!) to send the request for intelligence report up here to the LIU - now 5 months elapsed. LIU has to send back their report within one week.

And despite that, they are taking months to process it? That's shocking: mine was done in a few days.

A friend of mine gave up on the Delhi MHA office, and finally got hers back in her home country. It was an ongoing affair of months and months.

I persevered with the Delhi MHA office, but it took me well over two years to get my PIO. It must be some kind of record..
And no, there was nothing odd about my application. From what I gather from the other experiences here, it's best to do your application from anywhere but Delhi!
(I didn't have much choice, as I was residing in India when applying, and was not living in one of the Metros, so I had to go to the MHA.)

Two years! It's appalling isn't it? Did they lose your files or something?

A bit Off topic, but I am trying to get internet banking through one of our local banks where I have a savings account - it has been ongoing for nearly three months. I recently did the 3rd application yesterday. They can't find my other 2 applications, the 2nd done because they lost the 3rd. Mr K got his internet banking open and running in 10 days. I don't understand what is going on - and have written a letter to the internet banking office main place for India.

Your visa ongoing makes me think my banking might be the same, Martijn!

Hikkaduwa, Paleface, Birds,

Any progression with the PIO? I hope Martijn has set a record that won't be equalized nor.. whatever.
Stay in touch

And Aishah yes, the banking is kinda the same thing, "customer friendly" policy still needs some development over here. Maybe they'll try harder when you ask for insurances with them. (no kidding)

Ha! No word from Delhi to local SP or LIU as yet, just under 6 months, can't rush things can we? Got the one year extension confirmed today locally, well it's not actually in the passport as the papers are on the way back from Dehradun, foregone conclusion though - and Yes i have have said that often in years past and regretted it so i don't say it during recent years, unless it really is!! Mithai all round..

I'll do almost anything to avoid going down to Delhi - so will courier off a letter to the section officer and the JS at Jaisalmer house soon. Then sit and wonder if anything is moving. Nice of you to inquire PIOJoe..
