Advance apologies to mods - can't post in the chai etc forum as the four letter word starting with C is filtered at my site here
![]() I'm soon going to be visiting an expat colleague who recently became a proud mother to a bonny little boy. Now in India, we even give cash as gifts (i'm sure everything is well provided for). What's okay for Germans? Just wanna make sure I neither offend, nor amuse ![]() Honestly, I'm the kinda person who'd much rather give cash or sets of disposable diapers - if nothing else, its downright usable than add clutter which the other person may neither use, nor appreciate! What do y'all say? Cheers

Hmmm - of all the gifts we received before and after our baby was born about 10 months ago I guess what was most useful was gift vouchers? Clothes are a tricky one - you dont know what the couple's tastes or preferences are and also often everyone buys clothes so people end up with too many of one size and babies grow sooo fast in the first 6 months that some of the stuff we had we only got to use once or twice!! Gift vouchers from a store eliminates this risk.
What I appreciated the most were some vouchers for massages for me, after all, I did do all the hard work giving birth!! ![]() |

Madam Darkin,
Good to know you think on my lines ![]() I'd not give clothes for EXACTLY the reasons you outlined above! I think I'll just get some vouchers |

Good thinking
Also re diapers - many new moms tend to be very particular about which ones they use so I would just stick to the vouchers...!! |

I never give clothes (same reason as you) nor diapers (too boring). My last gift was a toy (music box) for the baby, a special tea for the mother and a book with children rhymes for the dad. If I would be unsure, I'd give vouchers of a nice shop. |

Yeah - i'm thinking vouchers from shoppers' stop only - not far away, nor a problem in variety!
Won't give tea as the couple is already an Indophile, and children's rhymes - nah. That'd be quite personal - they'd already have stuff they'd like. |
