Do you have advices for Murud Janjira
For a wedding we come back to India beginning of May. It will be very hot (specially for Swiss people
), that's why we thought to spend a few days in Murud for having a fresh sea breeze. Does anybody have some good advices for us - for example - the accommodation? - we're planning taking the taxi from the airport Mumbai - shall we take a prepaid one? What's best? - Somebody knows another nice place not too far from Mumbai at the sea where we can chill a little bit? Thank you for all advices! |

The only really nice place to stay at Murud-Janjira is the Golden Swan Beach Resort. They have fairly nice rooms and cottages and they are located right on the beach, so it's a good place to relax. The website is http://www.goldenswan.com/beachresort/html/index.html
Another nice beach resort near Mumbai is Kihim where there is a property called Ivory Resorts which has some luxury tents. I haven't been there myself but it's been recommended by some friends. The website is http://www.ivoryresort.com/home.htm If you're willing to travel a bit further from Mumbai - 200kms or so - there are some really unspoilt beaches - Diveagar, Harihareshwar and Shrivardhan which are a great place to get away and relax These would be my personal pick!It all really depends on what your budget is, how far you're willing to travel etc. I'm sorry but I can't help you with the taxi question - I've always driven my own car. Though I believe that it is possible to reach Kihim and Murud-Janjira through a combination of ferry and car/bus. Last edited by piccolina : Apr 16th, 2009 at 15:48. Reason: correcting a typo |

First thank you for trying to help!
I just checked Kihim/Ivory Resorts which is very expensive - but I wrote them an e-mail. We will see. No problem for travelling a bit further from Mumbai. Do you have any more informations for Diveagar, Harihareshwar and Shrivardhan? |

Have a look at this site - http://www.konkanyatra.com/diveagar/trip.html which will give you some information on the places to see around there and things to do. In terms of places to stay, we had stayed at the Shiv Shanti Holiday Inn which was quite good - http://www.shivshantiholidayinn.com/index.htm, but unfortunately not on the beach. I had really liked the look of this place as well - http://www.nivalink.com/exotica/index.html

travel to Murud
Hi,
It would be difficult to get a car i.e. pre paid car from Airport for travel to Murud. As it is he shall charge you for a return trip as he has to return empty from Murud. Also at airport the rates for car hire are generally on higher side. I would suggest you to hire a car for your travel from Mumbai airport to Murud and back. Hire a car and ask for a package for the no of days you r going to be staying there in Murud. You can use this car for your travel for local sight seeing or visiting near by beaches etc. As per day charges come with a set no of KM. per day you can very well utilise it to travel around. This way you are flexible and have a mode of transportation on hand, as local transport is difficult as well as costly (for foreigners)in places like Murud and around. Also you can have flexibility to travel to different places for your meals to try different variety of food as one gets bored eating same food at the resorts. Hope you'll have a nice time in Murud.... |

driving on our own in India
I think, we Swiss are not able to do... Unfortunately we have to have a driver. But at the place where we will stay, we can hire a bike, scooter... The pre-paid taxi might be the best to go in the night. Somebody told me about boats. Do you know what company runs the boats and where I can get the schedule. Then we have to be in Mumbai, train station CSTM at 21 o'clock for taking the train to Aurangabad where the wedding is. All in all we can spend 2 full days at the beach, the third day we have to get back to Mumbai. |

Basel, you're better off having a car with you when you're in Shrivardhan et al since everything is not within walking distance and you'll need it to get around and visit different beaches or temples depending on your interest.
Also, I don't think you can take a ferry if you're going to Diveagar/Shrivardhan/Harihareshwar - it's too far away. If, however, you are going to Murud-Janjira, you can take a ferry from the Gateway of India to Mandwa (the company is called PNP Maritime Services) which takes about 40-45 mins for the crossing and costs about Rs 110. Once you reach Mandwa, the ferry service company has a bus which will drop you in Alibag from where you can get an auto to Golden Swan / Kihim (the auto will cost you about Rs200-250). |

Have you looked at these links?

As far as I'm aware, there isn't a ferry to Diveagar - I think major access is by road. |

Also if you need a taxi do let me know will get you good rates... Stay is expensive as very few resorts in that area but i guess you should get a good roon for about 2500/day with food...let me know if you want more details cheers |
