Yoga Training?

Hi there,

I'm brand new to this site and am hoping to find some information. I am a yoga teacher in San Francisco, Ca and am hoping to travel to india sometime this summer or fall to do a yoga teacher training as well as some traveling. I'm hoping to be in India for one to two months. I've tried to google to find some info, but am having difficulty -- any one have any suggestions?

thanks!

Vanessa

Are you looking for an intensive Yoga course, or to refine your aasanas and learn some difficult ones?

Yoga Training in India

If you are into Asthanga yoga, the following forum would be very helpful.

thank you ...

to everyone that has replied. in regards to the last reply, i am open to whatever seems like the right fit, but am leaning more towards doing an intensive training. i am currently a yoga teacher in san francisco, ca - teaching beginner and mixed level hatha classes. i am trained in the tradition of swami satchidananda's integral yoga and am hoping to do another intensive (around a month long maybe) from another tradition, to broaden my knowledge of yoga, my own practice, and my teaching. i am especially interested in learning in india, as i'd like to have a deeper understanding of the roots of the practice. i am hoping to come over sometime in the fall or winter of this year.

any further information would be greatly appreciated.

blessings,

vanessa

Lightbulb Bihar School of Yoga

at Munger, Bihar is a very old and established institution where the real essence of Yoga (to become ONE) is emphasized. Of course, aasanas are taught,,,, but not as a means unto themselves..... as they are only the means to an end.

Be warned, 95 per cent develop cold feet after going there, becuse it is really austere and demands inner sense control and discipline.... which most Yoga teachers in India gloss over because they are more into the business of Yoga rather than the practice of yoga.

All the best of LUCK; may you find that which you seek.

website

i am certainly interested in the full practice of all limbs of yoga, not simply the aasana practice of hatha yoga. this, actually, is one of the main reasons i'm hoping to study in india.

is there a link on the web to that particular school -- bihar -- (or do you have other contact info for it?)

thank you again,

blessings,

vanessa

I am also a yoga instructor, and I will be attending the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in September (2005). It is Desikachar's school in Chennai. See website http://www.kym.org

Lightbulb Bihar School of Yoga

Their official web site (yogavision.net) is down for some reason. You could write to them at:

Bihar School of Yoga, Ganga Darshan, Fort, Munger, Bihar 811201, India.

This web site gives a succint outline of the holistic perception of Yoga as practised by the Bihar School founder, Swami Satyanand Saraswati.

You are a rare species indeed. Actually want to learn YOGA and not mere aasanas. You are a rare species indeed. May your search be fulfilling, joyous and fruitful. May you discover your True Self.

An interesting Question-Answer session on Yama and Niyama in Yoga is available on this Indiamike thread.

I would definitely email them and find out -- there is always a waiting list, as people sometimes drop out. No harm in emailing them right now!

woo-hoo, how cool would that be to be able to get in, and you would already "know" someone (me!). By the way, this is my first time overseas, and I'm traveling solo.

Thumbs up Vedic chanting

Not on the topic, but would you please give me details (if available) of the vedic chanting suuktas that they propose to teach? I have been picking Mike's brains about how to post MP3 audio clips on the forum. I had in mind to post some rare vedic chanting clips on Indiamike. He has insructed me, but i have yet to figure it out. All i remember is the sound clips must not exceed 2MB... so most of the vedic suuktas are out, only four to seven lines of verse can be posted. I have seen other 'free' web page hosting sites, but the individual file limit is again 2MB ..... so i am a bit stuck.
