yoga retreat/class for 6 months

Hello !
I presently live in beijing but I would like to move to India around late July for 6 months minimum to practice yoga. My yoga skills are a bit rusty ( I haven't practiced for two years because of an operation, followed by two years of a crazy work schedule) so I would like to go back to beginner's level.
Does anybody know if there is such thing as "6 month yoga classes"?
I am not familiar with yoga practice in India , but it seems that appart from teacher's training ( which is far too advanced for me, I think ), all the other yoga classes or retreats are only one or two weeks long.
I am looking for a serious program of Viniyoga or Iyengar.

Thank you very much !

Yoga in India

Taijing,

I too went to India in search of Yoga. My advise to you will be to find a school of yoga that you like eg Iyengar, Sivananda... and then do your research for places where they practice this style.

Every Tom, Dick and Harry in India can advertise a Yoga retreat and trick tourists into signing up for 6 months. Yoga and spirituality is India's biggest export!

If you want to stay for six months then my advise to you will be to travel arround, experience India and learn yoga. I looked arround a lot in India and Sivananda.org was the best place for me to learn Yoga. The yoga was gentle and the atmosphere was great. Here you will also get a chance to meet fellow travelers. I have seen people stay here for months unend. As far as you pay you are fine i think. Most yoga retreats are usualy 2 weeks.

Good look with your search.

Thanks,
Grizzly

Thank you Grizzly !
the thing is I need to settle, to get a part-time job ( be it teaching, I used to do this when i was younger and the schedule is flexible) and I have two cats ( who do not like travelling around too much )
I think I will follow your advice for a while when i get there, and then decide of a place to settle down.

I have already seen Sivananda.org during my internet search. I need to check again ( there are so many ads for yoga classes that i am overwhelemed by information )

Thank you ! I will check.
What you say about your teacher visiting China is interesting, I will try to find if he holds classes in Beijing in the meantime.

you can contact the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram in Chennai and schedule private classes with them. they do not do group classes.

you would have to find your own place to stay -- if you are serious about staying for 6 months, they can recommend an apartment owner for you to contact, an apt. that would most likely be within walking distance of the mandiram.

Most of the classes which are conducted in Mysore, Karnataka, Would last more than 2 Months.

You can contact contact them for more info. Another teacher whom you can contact is BNS Iyengar. He teaches Astanga Yoga,
