i have been to the sivananda ashram at neyyar dam (trivandrum) for a week a few years ago and i cant say that i would recommend it. Im not really keen on their form of yoga nor how they teach it to beginners (with seemingly little concession made for different abilities or body types).
I am also a little suspicious of one month teacher training. Yoga is a huge subject to study and learn how to teach and i just dont think that you could really do a one month course anywhere and then consider yourself qualified to teach.
Am interested to hear more about this yoga institute in santa cruz though.

oh no that doesn't sound good starting the course there in two weeks..will let you know how i get on.. I guess i see doing the months course as a start to the training and not necessarily to jump straight into teaching.

oops, didnt mean to put you off! If you´ve not done much yoga before then you may well enjoy it. If it is just an intro to teaching then i think it would still be worth doing.
Good luck...K
