will yoga alliance accept yoga vidya dham?

i am very interested in taking the yoga vidya dham teacher training early next year.

i know this seems like an insane question, but has anyone from the USA tried to get the yoga vidya dham course accepted by the yoga alliance as a 200 hour approved program?

i eventually want to become a yoga therapist so this is why i am asking, since many schools in the USA want you to have attended a yoga alliance approved program.

i will attend the program anyway because it seems so great. do the recent attendees have any great advice to offer or want to share their experience?

thanks
namaste!

sparkygirl, the YA accepts any hours of yoga training you have, it does not necessarily have to be from an "approved" school. as long as you can show that the training you received falls into their prescribed categories of: techniques, teaching methodology, anatomy & physiology, yoga philosophy, and practicum (student teaching). You must break down how many hours you were taught in each subject, e.g., 50 anatomy, 25 techniques, whatever.....

Even though I am registered with YA, I have mixed feelings about them. You may want to read this: Beware the Guru and the Governing Body

I ditto what yogagal says: Take YA with a grain of salt. They in no way represent any kind of official sanctioning body. They do, however, have on their board members of different yoga sects protecting their turf.

Interesting, YG. The blog she links to even more so in a horrible kind of way.

It's like these things are infected with some kind of corporate mentality...

unfortunately, that is yoga in the west, Nick....which is why I don't belong here....

fortunately, the people I study with here (the man who I did my original teacher training with) and my teacher from Chennai who comes to his studio every year to teach are the real deal and can't be bothered with all that

thanks for all of the responses i received. i spoke to someone from yoga alliance and i can submit a form to them completed by the staff at yoga vidya dham. i need to submit them as an unregistered school.

it is so bizarre that yoga taught at an indian ashram has to be approved by the YA, but it is life in the usa...
and unfortunately i work within the health and mental health systems and they definitely want professional credentials. much like in "beware the guru and the governing body". i am hoping to have my own independent practice someday soon.

yogagal, who do you study with in the usa and who is your teacher from chennai?
