what's the name of festival ...

It was 06th March 04. I was in Mamallapuram these days, and locals told me to stay one more night because there is festival over here.

It started 5th March in Talasayana Perumal Temple dedicated to wishnu, then all people went to small pond and put a statue on a boat and and swim around the pound several times, fireworks etc

6th MArch, all people (thousands :-) met at the seaside at dawn, swimming, makin rituals, shaving their heads etc

I found later that there was two festivals in calendar in these days:
Masi Magam and Holika Dahana. Anyone knows what was the festival ? Is it one of these two, or totaly different one ?

I think the festival was Holi and is celebrated all over India.

I know about holi that it's very colorful fastival, people throw color powder at each other etc.. but there was not things like this...

its "Maasi Magham ", festival,thats only festival thousands of devotees usualy take bath .And its famous there .
