Vipassana Courses

Hi to all

I have just read a great book about India called Holy Cow - highly recommended. Anyway, in the book there was talk of a Vipassana course which is free of charge and you make donations at the end. This course really interests me and I am travelling to India in October. What I need to know is where can I find info on where to do these courses and has anyone done one before. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Andy

Maybe I'm taking this from the wrong end but if it's the free-of-charge you're interested in there's usually very set expectations as to what your voluntary donation should be, it doesn't necessarily come cheaply either. Going for something with a fixed price might be just as good or better if only because you don't need to worry about what am I expected to give.

Just a thought.

You don't have to wait until you're in India to do the course, they seem to run it everywhere.. more details are on the website http://www.dhamma.org/
The course is residential and they also supply you with food (simple vegetarian stuff) so you'd need to consider that when making a donation I suppose.
I've heard from a few people that it's a very intense course though so you wouldn't just do it for a few night's free accomodation and food.

Hi Everyone

Thanks for you replies. When I was mentioned the course was free I wasnt aiming at getting free accomodation, I wanted to do the course for spiritual reasons. The only reason I mentioned this was because I am unsure of how much I should contribute.

The course is of 10 days for first timers.
I also want to do the same from Igatpuri (Near Nashik) but finiding it hard to take out 10 days at a stretch from the busy schedule. My uncle who stays in Chennai has done the course & is now the instructor for the same & he highly recommends the same.
