Tibetans to Celebrate 70th Birthday of His Holiness With Various Programmes

[font=Comic Sans MS]Dharamsala 26 December: Tibetans both in and outside Tibet will celebrate the 70th birthday of His Holiness the Dalai Lama through a series of religious, social, educational and health programmes as a mark of their heartfelt appreciation for His Holiness the Dalai Lama for the quality of leadership he provides to the 6 million Tibetan people.

RELIGIOUS PROGRAMME:
On 12 June 2005, the Central Tibetan Administration on behalf of the 6 million Tibetan people will offer a grand and elaborate long life offering to His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala. The occasion will be graced by the heads of the four schools of Tibetan Buddhism and Bon.

On the occasion of Saka Dawa, the anniversary of the birth, enlightenment and entering the heavenly fields which in 2005 falls in May, under the supervision of the Chief Representative office in Bangalore, the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies in Sarnath, the Welfare Offices in Ladakh, Mundgod and Gangtok, the Tibetans in all these settlements and institutions will set free not less than 71 sheep, goats, fish and fowls. Similar number of creatures will also be set free and released from harm's way on other auspicious dates in the Tibetan calendar of 2005.

Tibetan Buddhist centres and monasteries throughout the world will conduct long life prayers for His Holiness the Dalai Lama on all the auspicious dates of the Tibetan calendar.

In Dharamsala and Dehra Dun, prayer flags will be raised and strung on hilltops to increase the good fortune of the Tibetan people.

SOCIAL PROGRAMME:
A three-day Tibetan dance and music festival will be organised at the Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts in Dharamsala, beginning from 6 July 2005. A ceremony to felicitate His Holiness the Dalai Lama by the leaders of various religious denominations in India will be held. This will be followed by a dinner reception for the guests on 6 July 2005.

A seminar on issues of global peace through universal responsibility, promotion of religious harmony and the Middle Way Approach of His Holiness the Dalai Lama will be organised. Proceedings of this seminar will later be published as a book.

A photo exhibition on His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the life of Mahatma Gandhi will also be organised. This will be accompanied by a book which will contain the speeches of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Mahatma Gandhi. This book will also be released in a CD format.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME:
On 5 June 2005, the Department of Education of the Central Tibetan Administration will organise a discussion forum on His Holiness the Dalai Lama. The discussion will take place at the Tibetan Children's Village school in Dharamsala and will be participated by 30 students representing 15 higher secondary Tibetan schools in India.

HEALTH PROGRAMME:
The Department of Health of the Central Tibetan Administration in collaboration with the Tibetan Medical and Astro Institute and the Delek Hospital and all their branch clinics throughout India will organise medical camps and offer free medical services in local Indian villages for a period of 7 days in 2005. Starting from 6 July 2005, the Tibetan Medical and Astro Institute and its branch clinics in Dharamsala will distribute free medicinal pills to the local Indian for a period of 7 days. Delek Hospital in collaboration with Rotary club of Dharamsala will institute a medical camp and offer free medical treatment in a poor village in Dharamsala in June - July 2005.

Around 6 July 2005, the Tibetan Medical and Astro Institute and all its branch clinics throughout India will provide free medical consultation, treatment and offer free medicinal pills in their respective areas.
