The difficult search for yoga classes in South Delhi

Hi

I have just moved to Delhi and am living in Lajpat Nagar – in South Delhi.

I am looking for Yoga classes of any type which take place at either 7 or 8 am during the week in the Lajpat Nagar/ Janpura/ Defence Colony area.

They seem surprisingly hard to find!

Other than Life Yoga in the Defence Colony which is great but rather expensive (500Rs per class or 3900 for 12!) I havent found any classes in the area.

While I would prefer to attend a class, I would be open to personal instruction, if I could afford it.

I hope to practice 3 times a week.

Can anyone offer any advice?

Many thanks

Well yoga comes for free in Delhi..it wont be the modified versions that westerners are used to .. but very simple form of it done with no frills...

In most of the community gardens in Delhi there are yoga sessions, anyone is free to join and its free of cost..Check in your local area maybe start going for a walk in mornings in District OR community parks and ask people about the timings and location.

The other very good option is the Yoga institutes in Central Delhi, if you have your own conveyance, then in the mornings it would hardly be 10-15 minutes drive on one side. They are also absolutely free, and you can enroll into their regular classes...

I had posted the info about it several months back, searching the forum would be helpful, however it is located on the Backside of Bangla Sahib Gurudwara, near Gole Dak Khana. Another landmard would be YMCA.

There is the Iyengar Yoga Institute New Delhi run by Nivedita Joshi, nivjoshi@hotmail.com, with classes in GK-I and a Sivananda Center in Kailash Colony.

However, free yoga in the parks sounds quite nice!

Good luck

There are yoga classes held at the Aurobindo ashram in South Delhi. Beautiful place with lots of good people! Highly recommended.
