Shivaratri celebrations in Pune? Hi everyone, I'll be in Pune in February with my partner, and as there's the Shivaratri (night of Shiva) on the 26th of feb, traditionally with bhajans, sankirtans (religous chants), I'm wondering if anyone here knows places he can recommend. Temples, ashrams etc. in or around Pune where you can join the celebration. Regards Linn from Germany

Hi all, Jivan here, there are definately things happening here. On my side of the town it's happening at a place called harihareshwar mandir. The postal address is 462, Shaniwar Peth, Pune-30. The person who's organizing the thing here his name is Mr. Shriram Sathe & his phone no. is 24485517. They have the whole programme chalked out tomorrow as well as the day after. The thing to know is that it's starting from 6 in the morning till 12 a.m. at night with break in-between in the afternoon both the days. Another thing this part of the town is conservative so a salwar-kameez with chunni would be good.Another thing it's a strictly non-smoking affair. I'm sure there would be celebrations other places as well but sorry couldn't help more. There is possibility to find if u find somebody who can speak the lingo & can read sakal the paper edition or www.esakal.com (web edition). Other sources include the indian express (expressindia.com) look in city pune or times of india pune edition. If u guys wanna meet up or something then pm me & we can exchange details. Another thing that u guys can do is go to bhimashankar which does have loud & all-night celebrations(there is significance for that) approx. 185 km. from here. Hope it's helpful.

Hi Jivan, thanks for that great and detailed information - unfortunately I am reading it just now, back home again... in India I didn't check this board. But I am determined to travel to India next year again, so probably I will then make use of that adress in Pune. Linn
