well Himalayas are full of them though temples themselves are not too spectacular (unlike South India), but nature around them often is
Maybe you should specify a region? Himalayas are too big to "jump" for example form tirthas in Gharwal to Buddhist monasteries in Ladakh just like that. I would consider sticking to a specific region, Gharval probably for Hindu sites. And beware of pandas (priests) at some of this places ![]() Traveling up there might be more difficult than you think also, depending on your transportation and accomodation options/budget. So for example if going around Gharwal you might decide to go down to Rishikesh or like that after visiting some places and rest for a while before going back wich takes time, so I wouldn't plan to see too much too soon.. |

This book will give you an idea about the pilgimages in the himalayas(infact all ovr India).
http://www.amazon.com/101-Pilgrimage.../dp/8189449036 You can also go through the net/wikipedia to see what you are basically looking for. pilgrimages in himalaya is a very wide topic - almost every peak/confluence/route is a pilgrimage. Once you have a clearer idea you will be able to ask more detailed questions. |

Vaishno Devi at Trikuta Hills, in Jammu & Kashmir is also another famous Hindu pilgrimage site....
Garhwal and Kumaon are dotted with shrines and temples...

Patal Bhubaneshwar, on the other hand is in the Kumaon circuit. However, as it has been already mewntioned that the Himalayas are home to a wide spectrum of spiritual and religious beleiefs, I would add the following. Hinduism - Amarnath, Panch kedar, char dham, Vaishno Devi, and if you consider places beyond India, Kailash & Mansarovar. Buddhism - Rumtek, Pemyangtse, and Ralong monastery in Sikkim. Bomdila and Tawang monasteries in Arunachal Pradesh. Hemis and Thiksey monasteries in Ladakh. Sikhism - Hemkund Saheb gurdwara in Garhwal. Islam- Jama masjid mosque in Srinagar, Kashmir.
