Open-minded Ashram Recommendation for Rishikesh or Hardiwar

Hello all-

My girlfriend (Christian) and I (Jewish-Buddhist) are looking to spend some time doing yoga and meditation at an ashram in Rishikesh or Hardiwar. Not surprisingly, if we can find one that is open to all religious traditions -- or better yet -- is based on some of the more open Hindu teachings ("Many paths, one God," etc.), we will be all the happier.

Any recommendations are welcome. Thanks so much!

Interesting notion really about where this perception came from, but not to speculate. I have never heard of Vedanta Yog which is overwhelmingly what you are going to come across (if it's simply asanas or more besides) being closed to anybody or anything. I would simply cast it out of mind.

Vedanta guides but doesn't preach, is dialogue, question (doubt) and answer (clarification). There's no this way is better than that way, as it recognises every which way is going in the right direction. A great example of this is Sri Ramakrishna, who ruthlessly practised the way of Vedanta, Christian, Islam, during his life to prove to himself what you have perceived above.

If you plan to stay in Rishikesh, i suggest you check out VedNiketan Ashram which is at the end of Swargashram area. They charge 150 rupees per day which i felt was cheap. You will be provided an ashram style simple individual room with attached bath , bed.You can also get it for Rs100 per day with shared bath. Morning and evening yoga classes are free and also you can listen daily lecture free on yoga, kundalini, vedanta philosophy and lots of other subjects in excellent english by the ashram head who i felt was an enlightened man of wisdom. In addition, the ashram is spacious, secluded, well maintained, 5 mins walk to restaurants and shopping, above all right infront of the ganga river. I couldn't find anything better than this during my 50 day stay in rishikesh. You can also try the guest house called as "Sarika" which looks modern and comfortable and charge rs150 per day. Its a little inside and on the hills, and about 20 mins walk to shopping area but its just a guest house and doesn't come with yoga and philosophy lectures.

Thank you Prince09! I hope what you wrote is based in 2009! I am going to Haridwar in Nov. and plan to spend a month or more in and around Rhishikes and haridwar etc.. My budget though has plans of only 3 days i guess.. add to that my absolute fear of public toilets... So if i am getting a place to rest my head at nite for 100-150 i would be in heaven! And the yoga and lectures and the whole ashram atmosphere is something i would die for .. at this moment in my life.. So i hope the post was a current post.. and those facilities are still available and rates are same.
A Month to soak in the lap of masters in Rhishikesh and haridwar would suffice?

Cheers..
here we go!!!!!!

Ashram

Bharat,

The information i've posted is current. I stayed there in May-June this year and am planning to go there again in mid november. I'll catch up with you if you're there at that time.

Cheers
