I stayed in an Osho ashram, and whilst I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of it, I find it difficult to describe Osho as anything but a false prophet - "Abandon rationality because what I'm about to say is nonsense", no thanks.

Personally I think there is over emphasis on finding the 'self' and inward perspectives achieve little. I found it much more helpful to abandon the search of the self and simply start examining the world around me. India was great for this, since it is life in all its extremes.

In your case it sounds more like your vulnerability could be taken advantage of rather than your naivety.
You are right it can ONLY be done through Meditation, but you don't need to visit an Ashram for that,in order to find your SELF you must first lose yourself, so it sounds like you are nearly there which is why you've reached the crossroads (unless you're just having a mid-life crisis of course!)
Where you are trying to get to you already are, you just haven't realised it yet.....The seeker is the sought!
So why not stay where you are & be still & know Thy SELF.
What are you talking about?

In the south of india there is a small ashram in Kanjagad which is good for meditation..it is pure spiritual with the least facilities but safe.Another one Tulasidalam is a small ashram with all modern facilities and again totally into philosophies and spirituality based on pure yoga.

I have read about a monk in France, who teaches Meditation, and has his retret in Plum Village, His name is Thich Nhat Hanh. He has trained many and many have benefitted from his way of teaching meditation. He has number of books to his name, first one is 'Miracles of Mindfulness' you may read if wish to go deeper in meditation. He may have other places of meditations started by his students, all over the world except communist countries like China etc. etc.
