My spiritual quest
Hey Guys, I need a little advise. I want to be traveling around India from around end of January time for a couple or months (maybe more).
One of the main reasons i want to be traveling is to explore my spirituality and inner self. I know that ultimately that peace and bliss i seek is internal (which is the ultimate aim of spirituality), but at this stage i want to explore the external spiritual world a little, and i have chosen to start in India. I would like to go to some of the places in India where spiritual giants lived/are living, and also to places that are not necessarily touristy. I have been on the spiritual path for the last 7 years or so, and have gained many insights. I do enjoy meditation, when I’m in the mood, enjoy praying and devotional songs too! But most of all, i love spiritual banter, which i find most inspiring. I would like to do some of the touristy things, but that would not be my main aim. Anyways, I would like to do this journey with a spiritual partner. All my friends from back at home (I’m currently already in India), would love to do something like this, but cannot commit enough time. I want to find someone who is very much into spirituality and keen on traveling too (more back packing than anything else). The reason i want someone to do this with rather than on my own is so that we can share each others insights on our journey and keep each other inspired. I’m wondering if there are any online forums, where people of this mindset may exist, i.e. tying up spiritually minded travel buddies. My email address is yatin9@hotmail.com Any advise would be appreciated. |

A spiritual journey needs no preparartions and listings.
All it takes your soulfoul appraoch to the world around you. Nice to see that you are en route to divinity. I can suggest you a place called PURI, one of the holiest Dhams of India. If you can inhale the divinity(inspite of all odds) then you are welcome. I live here at my bayside forest cottage. wish u miles of smiles sanjay Last edited by Alan D : Oct 23rd, 2005 at 01:48. Anandavana
Varanasi is a very powerful place and has been for over three thousand years. One of it's earliest names was Anandavana - The Forest of Bliss, and while the trees of that forest have been chopped down long ago, it is one of the great spiritual destinations in all of India for Hindus. It is auspicious to die in Varanasi, it removes a person from the rounds of birth, life, death and rebirth. The Buddha passed through Varanasi many times and spent time in Sarnath, about 20 km away from Varanasi. Sarnath is, I believe, where he gave his first public address after becoming enlightened in Bodh Gaya. And more recently His Holiness the Dalai Lama gave the new millenium/New Years Eve address in Varanasi on Dec. 31, 1999. I was fortunate enough to be in Varanasi at that time. You will find no shortage of philosophical banter in Varanasi and if you want, there is a very, very active musical community there too. Peace. Scott

If backpacking is your thing, you should look into trekking into the Himalayas to places like Badrinath, Tabo, Rishikesh or even Dharamsala. Just the trek to these sites is a spiritual journey that will allow you to contemplate the spiritual world. There is something about the energy in these mountains that brings these kinds of thoughts out. Best of luck in your journeys

Guys, thanks for all the replies. Very much appreciated. I have finalized my plans a little more now. I am planning to visit Sai baba's Ashram for 2 weeks for his birthday, and then from there, i want to travel some of Andra Pradesh/Karnataka (after 25th November). Around Xmas time i will be back in the ashram, after which i will continue my travels, but more around kerela/Tamil Nadu side. Any recommendations for places to visit would be appreciated. Also if there are any spiritual ashrams, yoga centers or meditation retreats that are around that area, if you could let me know, again I would be grateful.
Just a general question too, when you go traveling with a backpack, where do you normally keep the back pack when you go to places u know bags are not allowed? Sanjay, Where is puri? Is that on the east coast of India? I may come to that area early next year. I really want to travel to far east side of India eventually, but i hear its rather dangerous at the mo on your own. So if anyone is up for traveling up as a pair to this area, would love to hear from you. Goldenage, let me know what type of travel plans you have, maybe our paths may cross, and we will be able to share insights or even travel together for a while. I am planning to be down south India, until Mid January time. |

My plan is No Plan
Hi guys
I'm travelin to Delhi in November, and that's my plan I would like to see Agra, the ISKON center (betwin Delhi and Agra), Mount Abu, go south to kerala, thiuvananthapuram (?), chennai and come back by the east coast (maybe). If I have time, I'l go to Nepal. But, as a friend of my told me, take no plans to India, that´s impossible! Go with the flow I would like to meet nice spiritual groups and learn of indian medicine, and about medicine plants. I feel that when I arrive in India Me and my Heart will change forever, so there's no matter on making plans before that let's ear from you yatin9 om shanti ![]() |
