Muscle-Joint gymnastics
Hi
Is anybody of you who is practising yoga doing the muscle-joint gymnastics (that is considered a preparation cycle for any yoga asanas). I have afew questions about your experiences. |

I've never heard of "muscle-joint gymnastics"! But one style of yoga I teach is yin yoga (or Taoist Yoga) that focuses on the connective tissue of the body around the joints relative to the hips, pelvis, and lumbar spine if that's what you are referring to. see Yin Yoga

I have a book about structural yoga therapy and there is an emphasis on working on the joints as warm-up.....hands, elbows, shoulders, feet, knees, hips, neck.......don't know if that is the same thing that you are talking about......I am doing it once in a while, but don't know if that qualifies for answering your questions

The term in sanskrit is "shithilikaraNa"
Its what people in English would say "warm up" but its not the same

Thank you all for the replies. The thing I am asking about is very specific and had two parts. First is mainly the stretching of feet and back and the second is more active with more accent on legs, hips,etc. I have been doing it every dau since I started yoga and at first its was all right - just the regular muscle pain as with any exersice but then the joints started really hurting all day after I do the sets. I wanted to ask if this is something normal for the beginner or it is not and I am doing something wrong.

are you doing yoga in class with yoga-teacher or trying on your own at home ? If you have a teacher, he/she should be qualified to help you with that problem. In case you "learned" from book or DVD, you are always at risk to do things wrong and hurt your body over time.
I would recommend to avoid your warm-up-routine for a while and try something different instead.....then see if your joints are getting better. |
