Talking monsoon wedding - or: can i marry my girlfriend in India ?

.
For some years now i travel india with my girlfriend. Yesterday she ask me to marry her - but we both live in germany and dont want to do it here the "official way" - we both imidiatly thought of a wedding in india or tibet. For us "official papers" are not important, we dont need that. For us more important is a spiritual ceremony. Is that possible for non-hindus/buddhists in india or tibet ? Any idea ? Own experiences ?

many thanks
Lori

There are, I believe, travel agents who specialise in this sort of thing and I suggest that you go through one of them.

Congratulations... Hope you have a lovely time

congratulations Lori!

if the papers are not important then you can create any sort of ceremony that you want. the sky's the limit! i personally love the idea of you two wedding in india because imo, india needs more openmindedness towards diversity in relationships. and you and your girlfriend can add to that just by being there and confessing your everlasting love for each other.

let us know what ideas you come up with. and best wishes!

Oh yes! Plenty of that sort of relationship diversity in India .

I think Lori had something more romantic in mind though.

But, Hey; apparently this woman loved the snake, so I guess that's pretty romantic

thanks for the link. i had heard about the woman marrying the dog awhile back. marrying animals/reptiles is farout by any standards, but since the whole village considers it auspicious it is likely largely the reason it received approval.

now if india can see it's way past issues of caste, religion and sexual orientation, etc., in relationship...

and note her statement "It has never harmed me", and likely no dowry! umm, guess it won't be too hard to imagine consummating the wedding

nick - love your new showy avatar.

who's standards is it anyway? polyandry, polygamy existed before..why did countries ban it:- why do we put restrictions? lets open our mind then completely..if beings are in love with each other..let them make a union....whatever that is....

<just musing here>

Talking

aaaaah yes, i heard of that snake marriage - ok, why not ... and hey ... thats india - if the snake is ok with her

and yes, you are right ... the sky`s the limit ... and why dont create a very personal ceremony and invite all our friends to stay with us for a cupple of days ...

one of our friends send me some info about Arya Samaj Wedding - maybe you know about it. true, we dont need any official ceremony, but my sweet Lady is kinda romantic about indian ceremonys and so this is maybe some alternative.

The most obvious choice for many who want to keep the occasion simple is the Arya Samaj wedding. Prescribed by the founder of the movement, Swami Dayananda Saraswati, an Arya Samaj marriage is solemnised by Vedic rites. Instead of any deity, fire and other elements are deemed witnesses to the ceremony. The Vedic hymns recited are translated into the language of the bride and the groom. The idea is to preserve the sanctity of "original" Hindu marriage rites — such as Laajahoma and Saptapadi — while doing away with all the "add-ons". So, dowry and caste-specific rituals are a no-no. Considering that the Arya Samaj movement was essentially a Vedic revivalist movement, the bride and the groom have to be Hindus or need to go through a "shuddhi" ceremony.

... if you have some nice idea, let me know about it. i am sure, that we will have a very beautyful indian-style ceremony and i will post some photos here.

Why not go for the not-so-simple Hindu wedding!

Take all day (or three) over it.

CONGRATS!!! Last year in Kerala, I read an article about "foreign" couples coming to Kozhikode (Calicut) to get married. They were quite the celebrity!

There's an arya samaj there that does all those vedic rites, but I'm sure any arya samaj in any state would do the same.

I believe the address is Calicut Arya Samaj, Aryasamaj Mandir, Puthiyara.p.o, Calicut-673004
I don't remember the phone number.

My friend from the states converted to Hindu at the above place so that she could visit many Kerala temples.

Congrats again!

You could also try the Gayathri way...I could give you more details. One of my aunt's house assistants got married about (2) weeks ago all done by Gayathri way. I can't remember the exact name, but will let you know more if interested. It was GORGEOUS - there were hues of yellow and orange everywhere. very simple, beautiful, ...based on gayathri mantram!
quite celestial and powerful!
