| low caste yoga....is there a history? i've been thinking about yoga... as in, really thinking about yoga...origins, the motivations of early indian practitioners,history.... and here's something that has intrigued me for a while, but i've never articulated as a question: low caste yoga in india... did it ever exist? how widespread? when was it appropriated by higher castes? has it been appropriated? at a time when "lifestyle", diet, "aspirations" are the cause of so many health problems in india i'm puzzled as to why the traditional, non-religious yoga solutions have fallen away? |

| this is a trailer for the movie "Yoga Unveiled" which you might be interested in. It's an excellent movie. my teachers in India would tell you that yoga had no caste (by the way, the man in the beginning of the trailer is Lara, the man who demonstrated the asanas at the school where I studied in 2005.)
