IM Ratha Yatra Meetup

Things are moving along at a dizzying pace here in Puri for the upcoming Ratha Yatra, which will be held on July 8th this year. I was on the Grand Road earlier today and the police were clearing out all the little kiosks that are encroaching on the road. Lights are going up, streets are being fixed and some people are already staring to roll in.

If anyone in the IM community plans to be here for Ratha Yatra, I thought it might be nice to meet up. If you are presently in India and have never been to Ratha Yatra (Car Festival), then I highly recommend that you consider coming to see it. It is really an amazing and moving spectacle. Besides, it is the only time you get to see and be up close to the Lord of the Universe (Jagannath) as well as his brother (Balabhadra) and sister (Subhadra).

Ahh, Seraph, I wanted to go soooo much....Me and my hubby went to the Hathayatra in 2002. We stayed 2 weeks there. One of the best times in my life !!!
This year it will not be possible, due to my dance classes...

Ah Bangalore Dancer, 2002 was my first Ratha Yatra. I have been hooked ever since.

Maybe you saw a balding gora surrounded by a sea of black haired Indians pulling the chariots. Jai Jagannath!

Though there were definitely a few minutes there where I wondered how I would find my way back out,

I highly recommend pulling the ropes.

On saturday the 16th of july, there will be a Ratha Yatra festival in Antwerp (Belgium). Chances are slim, but if there are some IM-members around, we can go for a drink or have some samosa's
