English Speaking Sadhus, Babas, etc.

This is a two part question.

Generally speaking, how common is it to come across English speaking sadhus in India? This doesn't include expatriates who've taken up the ochre cloth.

In places such as Kashi, Haridwar and Rishikesh I am sure that the odds increase. How common is this in these places?

Hmmm... I'd imagine they would be more easily found in places such as you mention.

I can remember meeting an English-speaking sadhu at the famous Basavanagudi Nandi temple outside Bangalore.

This man lived in a tiny cave and had a university degree! He was very welcoming.

Good luck

The sadhus on the move are often English speakers. The people at Haridwar and Rishikesh do indeed speak good English a lot, because they might be educated city-folk who retired into the Himalayas.

You find good English speaking Agoris (living on cremation grounds, wearing black), e.g. at Puri.

Manali is a good place, particularly Vashisht, just a few kilometers up the road. But any of the other major spots on the traditional hippie trail as well. But english speaking sadhus often think they are too smart by half...so watch out...
