Birthplace of Lahiri Mahasaya

Hi!

Has anyone visited the birthplace of Lahiri Mahasaya in Ghurni ( a suburb of Krishnanagar town in West Bengal, India). It is also world-famous for its clay idols.

I was just wondering about this place as I live only a few hours away in Kolkata! Lahiri Mahasaya was the famous saint from Varanasi who spread the teachings of Kriya Yoga all over India.

Thanks prascocyte for mentioning Lahiri Mahasay, very few people know about him these days and apart from the clay idols Krishnagar is also famous for Shor bhaja which is a typical & unique sweet.

I have been to Krishnagar (normally spelled without a second na, as jyotirmoy does) a number of times for visa extension and other purposes, like making a phone call which in the 80ies could be done only in cities; it is the district headquarter. What caught my attention there was the number of Catholics, esp. Mother Theresa's sisters on the road. It is a major center of Christian activity, also from other Catholic orders. You can go there by taking a train from Sealdah.

When Lahiri Mahasaya was 5yo the family's ancestral home was lost in a flood, so the family moved to Varanasi, where he would spend most of his life. KK

Thanks!

Thanks everyone for your reply. But I have found out that the place where He lived still exists.
