addicted to ayurvedic medicine

as I have been in rishikesh for almost 2 weeks now, I became adicted to ayurvedic medicine, which is so cheap here.
I have tried stuff for stomach acidity as I have experienced lots of problems here in India, and it worked.
now, I have stumbled upon a product that I have bought in Hardwar. this product 'divya jyoti' is an eye tonic that is supposed to help the eye sight and any other problems related to the eye: cataract, remove spectacles, conjuctivities, tiring of eyes, reddishness, trachoma etc.
the ayurvedic doctor B.C Hasaram & sons in hardwar, told me to buy 3 bottles of this eye tonic, which is dirt cheap, 30 rps each bottle and use it twice a day and then after one month to remove my glasses and boom, I am suppose to see a whole lot better. in 3 months I should have perfect eye sight.
have you tried any such product or have you heard from anybody that tried it? I looked on internet but couldn't get any info at all.
I'll appreciate any info.
thanks,

Glad your getting your health problems sorted.

Whoa.... wouldn't it be nice if getting good eyesight back was that easy?

Calling Kiranlal? Anything in this?

please go to qualified ayurvedists...yes..some of them will work and it might be cheap but it has to be pescribed by someone legit. in india..as in any other product...there is sufficient scope for adulteration..be it milk or this..i would do some research or ask for recommendations and consult a qualified ayurvedic physician before trying out anything...

there are many controversies regarding ayurvedic medicines containing heavy metals and stuff but then again these could be generated by the big medical conglomerates and pharmaceuticals to save their own market! just fyi

a lot of ayurvedic medicines in India are spurious. I'd be extremely careful with anything that I have to put in my eyes.

I would not risk putting a medicine in eye, unless I am very sure about the brand and the manufacturer...

Think about it, if it was true would there be anyone in India with spectacles ? Including Manmohan Singh ? Suggest you to stay away from such eye medicines as compared to a drinking medicine, which can in the worst case give you a few weeks of stomach problem!!!

Obviously it has been suppressed by the powerful multinational eyeglass industry. I had a friend who was given another ayurvedic miracle cure for his diabetes (dried mangosteen or something like that). After six months he stopped taking insulin and felt great. Then he died. True story.

hmmm....I sure wouldn't be putting anything in my eyes without knowing exactly what it is.

Ayurveda nowadays is like anything else in the "holistic" realm, be it yoga, reiki, whatever. For example, there are those of us who continually study yoga and go thru 200 hr. or 500 hr. trainings and beyond, and then there are those who go thru the "become a yoga teacher in a weekend!" course. Frankly, here in the US, there are only 2 ayurvedic schools I would trust. and I know many ayurvedic "medicines" here are under lots of suspicion (and not necessarily by Big Pharma) for having heavy metals, poisons, etc.

Perhaps that is why other stuff gets suppressed? Here's an interesting link I ran across recently... http://www.news-medical.net/print_article.asp?id=12142

Have recently had to change my medications from a generic back to a patent drug that was not doing as good a job. The company making the generic shut down production so none's available. Pharmacist told me that it was probably because the generic was not making enough money for the company. Stop producing the stuff and put resources into other ventures bringing in more $. As I suffer from IBD perhaps a move to India and some of the green glop might cure me....
Wonder if my medical plan would cover flights to India?

the same goes for so called Ayurvedic prationers. The one I hung out with was completely untrustworthy. I am sure there are quailified Ayurvedic Dr. in India but THERE are those who actually do damage and are by no means healers.

I'm all for alternative therapies -- hey, I teach yoga! -- but I still think we need to be careful about what we put into our bodies. Just because something is "natural" does not necessarily mean it's good. I have read articles by non-western, non-Big Pharma groups that have questioned the safety of some ayurvedic products. A good source is Alternative Medicine magazine.

Same here. For many ailments, I would prefer natural therapies over the chemically made pillets or syrups. But the trust factor is critical. Across the country, there are many big names which I would trust with ayurcedic medicines.. For example a eye tonic by 'Himalaya' or 'Dhanwantari Matam' is something I would not run away from. But cure for wearing glasses is something I would not trust from anyone, cuz it is just too darn physical a process and is an exception from the 'body can heal itself' principal...

I think I am talking jibberish now !
