Hi,

I* know the name of two Iyengar yoga teachers in Rishikesh: Rudra Dev Gowda and Usha Devi (I found a question about her without answer there.

I did not find any way to contact Rudra Dev Gowda. Do you know one?

I tried with Usha Devi too. First I asked questions to Usha Devi via the website. No answer. So I called Omkarananda Ganga Sadan (Usha Devi) and the man who answered gave me a different address. I am not sure I understood well (I am French (and French are not very good in English), he is Indian...). So I sent email to omkara@bsnl.com and to omkarananda@bsnl.com asking some question. No answer.

Can you help me please?

Thanks a lot.

================

I will have practiced Iyengar during 80 hours (in five months).
I am 66.
I will be there, alone, from 21th of February till 7th of March, and from 12th of April till 12th of May. Looking for cheap accomodation (for me).
I will be there with my wife from 10th of March till 8th of April (I will go twice to Delhi to "catch" and "drop" her).

I just spoke to a Swami Satchitananda on the phone (I think that was his name) at the Omkarananda Ganga Sadan Ashram. He told me that the Ashram and the Omkarananda Ganga Sadan Patanjala Yoga Kendra, although situated in the same premises, have separate administrative teams. Perhaps that is what the chappie on the phone was trying to explain to you.

The Swami gave me Usha Devi's mobile number, which I will send to you.

Bramacharya Rudra Dev, a senior Iyengar teacher, conducts lessons in a rather militaristic style and students need to move quickly to keep up. Many western students appreciate his style and are able to feel the warmth behind his challenging adjustments. While Br. Dev's English is fluent, it might take a few days to get used to his accent, which is so strong that it is sometimes hard to tell whether he is speaking English or Hindi. His students are a mix of locals and Westerners. Donated mats and blankets are provided though if you are concerned about cleanliness you might want to bring your own. As with most Indian yoga schools, women should dress modestly. There are classes daily at the centre. Twenty day intensives are held three times a year during February, April and September. The centre is closed from mid-December to mid-January and for March, May and June. The Yoga Study Centre is on the other side of town from the other ashrams, and from where most people stay. A constant stream of Rs3 shared rickshaws move up and down the main road, and many go as far as the centre.

Can you tell us more about it ? A friend of mine is looking for a good place to practise yoga in India (probably in an ashram) next month for about two weeks.

Namaskar theyyamdancer,

The price of the lessons (Iyengar yoga) is 1150 rps for the six days (no lesson on Sunday). With this you get the personnal practice in the morning. It is a little more expensive if you buy less lessons, 700 rps for three lessons, 400 rps for one.

The price of the rooms with attached bathroom and nice large balcony on the Ganga) is 750 rps per night. With shared bathroom are at 650 rps.

During the yoga festival it will be full.
