Parmadan

What about Parmadan, officially known as "Bibhutibhushan Abhay Aranya" near Bangaon, 24 Parganas (N). It is situated on the bank of river Ichhamati and consists of an area of approximately 200 hectors. There is a forest lodge for which booking can be done from DFO, Barasat (Phone - 033 2552 0968).

The sanctuary actually started in the 1960's and got its official name in 1980 and has almost 200 deers. It can be reached via Barasat and Bongaon, both by road and rail.

Raichak-on-Ganges

Raichak is a fabulous place to be for weekends, private time, time away from bustling city life. Calm, Serene, Ganges by side ; its a fabulous place!

Well connected to kolkata esplanade by regular buses. 5 AM to 8 PM. The famous fort now converted to a star property is a wonderful resort. Although costly, we also had a look at Ganga-Kutir, a chain of villas on ganges. Finally we settled at the ITC villas near ferry gate. A private property, there are 2/3 villas for rent @ 4000/6000 a night.

These villa are wonderful. Fully furnished. One can cook also. Great view of Ganges from balcony. We stayed here. But passed our time in Ffort resort. 100 buck for TT/Carom/Tenis at the sports bar. 350 bucks for swimming pool. 550 bucks for buffet lunch looking at ganges on your side. 350 bucks for gym. Theres a disc also!

All in all a wonderful weekend gateway...

Yes Somnath da, Tajpur is a lovely place. As Biman says not far away from Cahulkhola (Digha – Contai road). If you take left turn from Chaulkhola you’ll reach Mandarmoni and if you go straight the next junction will be Balisai Mor. You need to take left turn from here to reach Tajpur.

Thanks Somnath. I will be there as soon as my son's summer vacation starts. Which one is the best place in your opinion to stay along with family? Should I get down to Kanthi P H or to Ramnagar, if opted for train?

My vote goes to Tajpur

We took a jeep from Kolkata itself but as per local people Ramnagar would be better.

A good news is that for enjoying the fun of Parasailing we now do not need to go to Goa or as far as Pattaya ... I have heard that we can now avail the facility of Parasailing by the sea at Tajpur !!

Chakla Dham
The principle of traveling is pleasure. Many people are in the habit of traveling over different destination in order to see their respective interests to the attractive spots. Natural world, pilgrimage, or historical places amongst the major attractions. Our destination this time was a pilgrimage called Chakla Dham.
My in-laws are great devotee of Loknath Baba, hail from Orissa. On their arrival for a short stint in Kolkata we decided to go there on 11th of April. Morning at around 0900 AM we started from Kolkata by road. After a short break at Barasat, we proceeded further till a junction called ‘Bira More’ and turned right. From there Chakla Dham is almost 15 km. The natural beauty of the road is beyond explanation. Paddy field all around, small villages, lots of Poultry firms was the beauty of our journey. At 11.30 am we reached Chakla Dham and parked the car in front of Mandir committee parking spot. Innumerable number of nature lover and devotees comes from different part of India to visit this prettiest place of Bengal. As soon as we reached there we met officials who accept donations and provided us with coupons for food in free of cost. The place is full of mango trees and small kids are selling mangos in almost throw away prices. For one full bag (almost 10kg) they charged us only Rs.10/-, amazing.

At around 1.30 we were told to attend for lunch, after the Puja is over. They have two separate places for that purpose. One is in the first floor just beside the main Mandir, and one is behind the Mandir on the ground floor. The food we were provided were awesome. The charges could have been @ 100 Rs. per plate (veg). So many delicious items in one go.

On enquiry we came to know that they have 8 rooms available for stay. Because of paucity of time and as we had no such plan, we could not stay there. But they assured us that over phone the room can be booked and we can be given rooms if it is available. The rates are very nominal. We bought some fresh vegetables from a small market bang opposite to Mandir. The journey could have been more cheerful, had it been winter. Locals were saying that there is another place and that is the birth place of Loknath Baba but we did not go there.

At around 3.30 we started for Kolkta and reached here by 5.30. Nice place for a week end trip.

How to reach: by road -Madhyam gram/Barasat/Bira more – turn right another 15 KM to Chakla Dham
By train – Station Bira on Sealdah Bongaon route, by auto or motor van rickshaw to reach Chakla Dham. It can be accessible from Ashok Nagar too.

Yes, it was Kachua. But the weather god was not in our favour. We had to put off our shoes and chappals before entering inside the Mandir and we could not even walk as because the hot stone made path towards it. We had to run to escape the hit. Kachua may be next time.

Suvadeep: the number of one official who came to our office few day's back is 9775282563. I forgot his name. It is saved as Chakla Dham. He came here to collect donation of a newly made hospital beside Chakla Mandir. You can take my name. Hope he will help you. I tried to call him but his cell phone is switched off. I will call again in the afternoon. Meanwhile you also try.
