Tindharia - Urgent Help Needed
Hi,
I will be visiting India from end of Dec 2008 to end of Jan 2009. I plan to spend a week around darjeeling exploring the area. I am specially interested in the village called TINDHARIA, near darjeeling, beteen Siliguri and Darjeeling. I guess this particular village is next to the narrow gauge train track. If any of you have been there or, know some one near by please drop me a message or post a reply. thanks Dan |

Hey Dan,
drove through there in July....it was raining so hard I didn't even want to get out. we were on our way to Bagdogra to catch a plane and had to take this road because of a landslide on the main route from Gangtok to Siliguri. Can't say the bit i saw impressed me at all but I was slightly peeved with traveling as it was. can't really help but will ask some of my friends in Sikkim for some info Robert

Tindharia is a small hamlet on the Siliguri-Darjeeling Hill Cart Road. The narrow gauge rail track and road run side by side and there is small railway station also. In fact, Tindharia is the workshop of Darjeeling Himalayan Railway. So, from DGHR point of view, it is very important. The 100 or more years old steam locomotives are maintained here and all other stock of DGHR.
But I am not sure of any staying option there. But if you are very much interested about DGHR, you must visit this place. I believe some of the engineering marvels of this railway line, like loops and Z's are also nearby. Agony point loop may be nearby. So, if you are in railway photography, this place will provide you ample opportunities, I believe. Please do remember to describe me if you visit this place. I am keen to visit there in future. Though I visited Darjeeling seven times, what I did everytime is passed by this place without a stop.
