You may opt for Rajabhatkhawa in North Bengal. I doubt if there will be much trouble during the Pujas, and even if sporadic demonstrations are held, Rajabhatkhawa (10km by road from Alipurduar Jn) should remain unaffected.
For 5-6 days, it's a fantastic place to stay, at the doorsteps of Buxa Tiger Reserve. The place is calm and quiet and the sprawling Rajabhatkhawa [RBK] Jungle Lodge of the West Bengal Forest Development Corporation is really the place to unwind.
I was there in May, and double-bed rooms were priced at INR 800, while 4-bed dorms [with attached bath] came at INR 1200.
The lodge is absolutely spic & span [for a sarkari lodge they have Jaquar bath fittings, Saint Gobain glass in mirrors and La Opala crockery ] and meals [per day/per person] would set you back by INR 120-150 depending on your choice.
From RBK you can go to Buxa Tiger Reserve, Jayanti, Bhutan Ghat, Buxa Fort [it's a short but sharp trek], Phuentsholing [buy India-made wines cheaply from Tashi Commercial Corp ]...
If you need further info PM me.

If political condition is OK then I would recomnd. Jhalong - Bindu ; Dooars

North Bengal+ Dooars
- this thread can help you. But again - if everything is OK.

Yes. Shillong is really a good option. Otherwise you can try some parts of MP - Khajuraho, Bandhavgarh, Panchmari (hill station), Jabalpur, Amarkantak (if possible).
If Shillong is decided, PM me, i can give you a very comprehensive itinerary that will fit into the puja vacation.

Dear Stungan,
This refers to your recommendations in this thread dated 02/07/08
It seems that u must have visited Rajabhatkhaoa, Jainti, Buxa etc. Me with my family would be visiting that area during the first week of Nov., 2008. Our first stopover would be Malangi Lodge(WBFDC) for 2 nights & will cover Jaldapara, Futsiling, Khairabari, Mendabari etc. from here. From here we will proceed directly to Jainti and would stay at CESC Holiday Home there for 3 nights. From here we will cover jainti, buxa, rajabhatkhawa etc. From Jainti we will directly go to Rasik Bill (1 night at WBFDC lodge) and finally to Coochbehar (1 night - accommodation not finalised. Any suggestion ?. From Coochbehar we will start return journey for Kolkata. Now, we are hearing lot of disturbing news mainly abt law & order situation, specially in and around Jainti. How far these r true ? is the road leading to Jainti from Rajabhatkhawa is safe ? Should we take a Guide to roam around and if so what r the charges. Any tips and recommendations ? Thanks!

Extent of cold during Nov in Dooars

I have travelled Dooars extensively during the month of Nov. In my opinion and as per my experience, Nov will be slightly cold in the night and in the early morning. For protection purpose light woolen would be more than sufficient, even for the kids. However, during day time, it will moderately warm. Hope this will help u. By the way what is your itenery? Bye!
