Sealdah station to Kolkata domestic airport

Hello all, Request your suggestions on the ways to reach the domestic airport in Kolkata from Sealdah railway station...I shall be reaching Sealdah (by the overnight Darjeeling Mail) at 6 a.m. on Feb. 10 and need to take a flight at 9 a.m. from the Kolkata domestic airport terminus (is this the Dum Dum airport or Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose airport -- or, are both the same?)...

So, pls. let me know if taking a cab from Sealdah station is the shortest way to the domestic airport, and if so, what would be the route for this and the approx. time taken? Is there any local train/metro train from Sealdah - Domestic airport area and the timings for this in the mornings...

Your help in the above would be appreciated..Thanks

Two names: same airport.

There should be a pre-paid taxi stand at Sealdah, but I didn't see it when I took a train from there last month.

I don't believe there is any metro stop at Sealdah (Kolkata has only one line) and the Dum Dum metro stop is still a taxi ride away from the airport.

And traffic is so congested ... if the train is more than one minute late, you may miss your flight.

Good luck!

as wonderwomanusa says:

no metro stop too close to Sealdah and train is also not feasible. take a taxi. The prepaid queue at Sealdah might not kick off so early- I don't know, I've had bad experience on this.

Seladah, Beleghata, Ultadanga, DumDum is straight and short route. At 6am no need to go any other route. Time taken should be maximum 45 minutes. But that's at 6 am.

Hope Darjeeling mail reaches on time.

Thanks for your info. wonderwomanusa...looks like it's gonna be one big gamble to try to reach the airport! An alternative would be - and this's just a guess - to stay overnight at the retiring rooms at the domestic airport and take the flight the next day, i.e., Feb. 11 ...

Pray to god that D.mail is on time and doesn't get delayed due to fog.

You could buy a local train ticket from Sealdah station (the same terminus) for DumDum and go there by train. All the trains go there, it's just the second station from Sealdah, after Bidhan Nagar Road. You'll have to disembark from the left side of the coach. This will reduce road travel time. And then take a taxi to the airport. There are some local trains that go to airport station, I'll let you know the timings later.
If you can reschedule the flight - that's the best option.

There is one local train in the morning that reaches "Biman Bandar" (air port) station at 07-20 hours leaving Sealdah at 06-46 hours, the train no. being SBB-1. This station is very close to the airport. But no idea how to go to airport from the station. I'll let you know if I can get the information.

Don't get nervous. It will take just 45 minutes from sealdah station. There are pre-paid taxi booth and meter Taxi too. If you can start at 8 you can reach there in time via Beliaghata, Ultadanga & VIP road.

Thanks Dear !'

I have seen this raised railway track many times, but always empty ? So they run a train on it ? But why only once a day ?
What's the logic ? I think if they run it regularly many people will take it instead of taxis, due to chaotic Calcutta traffic.
