Santiniketan-Tagore's University-Scholarship - Help Needed!!!
Hi All,
I am trying to be enrolled to the Visva-Bharati Tagore's University, for 'one year causual student for foreigners'. However I have tryied all options to contact them but it all failed. They e-mail adress doesn't work, I called them but I could not get trhough since the guy on the phone only spoke bengali, he only said 'vacation time' in english. I cannot find anything on their site about this year enrollment. Can any one help how to get in touch with them? http://www.visva-bharati.ac.in |

Now here's a website to remember: their only link is to their "privacy policy"
Why this place, grzesiek-wroc? Perhaps you should keep looking for other universities. I believe India has more of them than anywhere else in the world. |

Sitaparityaga... you need to click on the name vishwa bharati. then it will take you inside the site.
At a casual glance I found a lot of info regarding different courses, admission criteria etc..... phone numbers were also given. grzesiek, may be you can call them once more. It seems they remain closed on tuesdays and wednessdays. So better to call on some other day. |

I doubt the place has anything to do with Tagore at all, except the name and that he founded it. Judging from impressions during a visit, it is a drab and boring place, run down buildings... But maybe there is a department or other that does something really interesting. yet i think you'd be better off at Kolkata University. But you need to learn Bengali first of all for any of these places. A poetic language by itself, indeed. Good luck...

Hi,
Thanks for your insight. Good to know. When have you been there? How long have you stayed there? I was expecting it to some extant since even during Tagore's life there was already a ruomur that the place doesn't stick to the ideals of Rabindranath. Maybe it's a good idea for me to visit the place in a first place and see how thing are going. Anyway thanks for you help. rgrds, grzesiek |

atala.... do you mean the shabbiness of the alumni building?
thats intentional I think. All shantiniketan buildings are built so as to blend with the local rural landscape. this was part of tagores ideals. from various newspaper reports over the years.... there seems to be a lot of mismanagement at the place. |

That is an interesting perspective on the shabby looks of most everything constructed in India... so that it blends in with the environment
. But as you mention it, I think it is true, and not a bad idea. Considering that it looks quite good, actually. Except I was at the museum which hardly deserved that name.I heard about the mismanagement too. Anything run be the government tends to go on a downward turn. |

@grzesiek
I have done my graduation from the Visva Bharati (the right spelling)university.they have world class department in music dance, drama,sculpture,paintings and different languages like chineses,japanese etc.and comperative literature.Higher studies like M.Sc Ph.D is good in science department too.you did not mention the subject or the course.so i cant help you.if you mention it then i will give you the ph no of that deprtment and the no of head of the department too.you will find it very much interesting to study here. @Atala It is not right that there is nothing 'rabindrik' except the rabindranath founded it.I agree now a days there are some students politics problems.but you will find some the best teachers of the country here and some of the best teacher of the world as a visiting professor.more over the atmosphere is not common with any other university.higher studies are good in this university.but as it is a home university the standerds of school is not good here.and most of the buildings are heritage and protected by Archeological survey of India.and the natural beauty ---I can't express in word.soI think you visited the place in hurry or you can't feel the soulof the place.I would like to help you if you come again in shantiniketan. |

@ Atala
The buildings are made there like that, so as to blend with the simplicity of the nature in earlier days.Rabindranath thought reading should be inside the nature.so stilldate school children take there class lessons under the tree in a open air class room. we also take it in the same manner.he called it Ashram.so buildings are like theancient guru griha types as mentioned in Veda and puranas |
