Day-I(22/12/2012): Dhotrey:
We reached NJP around 10:30am,as Kanchankanya Exp was late due to heavy fog.We hired an shared auto from NJP autostand and went to darjeeeling more. After reaching darjeeling more we rented a Mahindra Jeep started for Dhotrey
around 12noon.The rent was of the cab was little bit complex. The driver said he will take INR 110/- per head for NJP to Sukhiyapokhri. And After that from Sukhiya to Dhotrey the total fare will be INR 1200/-.
In sort from NJP to Dhotrey the total cab fare will Rs.((110X7)+1000) i.e Rs.1770.
After crossing SSB camp of Sukna,we took lunch (3pcs chicken curry, rice, dal, sabji) at a small roadside hotel. After having that over spicy lunch we again started for Sukhiya. On way we crossed two major tourist destinations,
Mirik & Pashupatinagar. We reached Sukhiya around 2:30pm,took some tea over there. It was a foggy & cloudy day over there. After a tiny photosession we again started for Dhotrey. We reached Dhotrey around 5pm.Our booking was in
Sherpa Lodge.
Actually we made all the bookings through DGHC(Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council Counter),but in Dhotrey DGHC do not have any trekker's hut, that is why they refers the booking to Sherpa Lodge. For Dhotrey's bookingI got the
reciept through mail from a person named Mr.Raju Chettri, unlike rest of the booking reciepts, what I got from Subhankar Pal,in DGHC office (4,Shakespeare Sarani).
We had a dormitory having 10beds and luckily there was no person except us,so all the room was ours.It was terribly cold & foggy weather we got freshed & had some tea. After taking some small rest & after roaming here there,
We finally convinced the owner of Sherpa Lodge to arrange for camp-fire.That was really a warm-cold experience to sit in front of fire with some hot drinks & fried chicken(made by son of the lodge's owner).Even the chicken was
fully cooked,we enjoyed it a lot.
After having dinner within 8:30pm we went to bed & really wanted a deep sleep as our last night was too hectic as all our train tickets were either RAC or in WL.But we could not sleep so much due to heavy cold & wind, were
coming from the holes in the different places of the hut.In spite of that we finally slept till the outside light coming into our hut.

Day-II(23/12/2012):Gairibas:
The next day around 5:30 me & Souvik woke up & decided to go out to see the sunrise. And what view that was,
when we saw the "Sleeping Buddha" range inside from the room.We went out took snaps as maximum as possible. After having tea & getting freshed we had our breakfast(Poori-Sabji).In the mean time Souvik & Biswajit(gulu) went out
to hire a Guide/Porter for next 8days trekking from porter office. They returned with Lakhpa Tamang. The most wonderful and honest guy I've ever seen.
We set our sacks on to our backs & moved on from Dhotrey.Trekking through Himalaya has been started. After 1hr walk we took a photo break, from where the Mt.Kangchenjunga and his family was clearly visible. Before reaching
Tumling,we took another two breaks for having some light foods & to take photos. The route from Dhotrey to Tumling was climbing uphill maximum. In tumling we had Khichdi in lunch, which was quite expensive(more than Rs.100/-
per plate). After 1 & 1/2 hours lunch break we started walking again. After some time we reached the entry of Singalila National Park, where we had to buy tickets(Rs.100/- per head).Around 4pm we took a small tea break in Jaubari.
The trek route after Jaubari was totally trekking down and after 1hr we reached Gairibas around 5:30pm.
Our booking was in DGHC trekker's hut & was also in a dormitory. After having early dinner we went to bed within 9pm.
The entire day we trekked around 12kms.
Thanks & Regards,
Anirban Roy

Just to add a point :

The cab driver from Darjeeling more demanded INR 1200(SukhiaPokhri to Dhotrey) initially but later agreed at INR 1000.
Only rules that matters are:What a man can do and what a man can not !!!!

Sandakphu-Phalut in December- TripReport

Day-III(24/12/2012):Sandakphu:
The next day after having Roti-Sabji in breakfast,we started a little bit early as we had to trek 12kms uphill to reach Sandakphu. The trail from Gairibas to Kaikatta is steep uphill trek for almost 2.5kms.In Kaikatta,
we took a small tea break & started again towards Kalipokhri, that was also an uphill trek but not very steep. We reached Kalipokhri around 12:30pm.After having lunch with Khichdi again,we started towards Bhikeybhanjang.Upto
Bhikeybhanjang was also uphill, but after Bhikey we need trek almost at 70degree uphill. From Kalipokhri to Sandakphu that a 6kms(We took 4hours).After reaching 'Sandakphu 0Km' milestone, still we had to trek around another 1km to reach trekker's hut & view point. We reached Sandakphu just few minutes after 5pm.
Here are some snaps of Mt.Kangchenjunga & his family (taken from Sandakphu view point) before the sunset.

Sandakphu-Phalut in December- TripReport

Day-IV(25/12/2012):Phalut:
The next day we woke up earliar to see and snap the sunrise and fortunately,we got a very good weather. The Everest & Kangchenjunga family was crystal clear. The best Sunrise & the best view I've ever seen.We filled up
memory-card of our brain & camera as maximum as possible.
Here are some snaps,

After having breakfast we started to phalut around 7am.That was a quite easy trek till Sabarkum(13kms from Sandakphu). We had cakes & biscuits with us.After doing lunch with that started journey towards Phalut.
The last 3.5kms was really tough but not as the trail in Sandakphu. We reached Phalut just after 4pm & it was so foggy, that one can not see another outside of 3ft radius, that is why there was no hope to see anything from Phalut top. After checking in trekker's hut we opt hot Wai-Wai noodles with eggfry for lunch,as this was the only option(??) we had to choose. After having lunch we started climb to Phalut top.
At first we found a fossil of a house.Crossing that, the trail was uphill and finally ended with a Buddhist Temple(or something like that).
After spending some time we came down to hut as there was already 6pm.After having early dinner(the same menu: Dal-Sabji-Rice-Papad),we went to bed.

Day-V & VI(26/12/2012 & 27/12/2012):Gorkhey:
The next day,the weather's blessing was with us but very sadly I(only me) could not wake up for sunrise & missed it.After waking up around 8am I climbed Phalut top.Kangchenjunga family with Mt.Pandim & Everest family was clearly visible.A photographer by soul like me could not stop myself from clicking more and more.I have tried to capture the frame what I was seeing,a lot of time, but I could not. Then came down to trekker's hut.In the mean time our group was ready to start trek down to Gorkhey.Got wai-wai noodles as usual in breakfast.Around 10am,we left phalut.
Here are some snaps I have taken from phalut top:-

Then it was a trek down for around 16kms.The next job was mainly walking along the jungle.Around 1pm we paused and took a lunch break. As usual there was no roadside dhaba or hotel in the middle of the jungle. We had some cakes & biscuits left in our sacks. We completed a delicious lunch with that and started again.Around 4pm the jungle was about to finish and we could see the Gorkhey from the top of the hill.We reached Gorkhey finally at 4:15pm.
At Gorkhey we had our booking again in DGHC trekker's hut.We checked in,had some tea.

At evening hours we had some grant alcoholic adda which includes leg-pulling of each other, sharing the experiences about Sandakphu trek, discussing about the snaps we took and many more.As usual after a early dinner with egg-curry and rice we went to bed.
The next day was just a relax & picnic day for us.Muscles were paining, body was shivering,... finally we understood that really we need a rest. We,the boys of our group had a late-noon party at the river bed.
