Road Query Bardhaman - Bolpur - Ahmadpur - Rampurthat.
I will be driving up north Bengal during next week, this time I intend to take the following
route from Kolkata , previously I never used this route , I used either NH 34 or
NH 2- NH60-NH-34.
This route is as follows -
Kolkata - Burdwan - (Off to NH 2B) - Talit - Guskara - Bolpur - (Then to NH2B
extension which hugs along the railway track ) - Bolpur Flyover - Ahmadpur
- Sainthia - Rampurhat - Then Normao Route to NH 60 - Moregram.
I will be much obliged if somebody updates me with the condition of this Road from
Burdwan till Rampurhat please.
Cheers

Rainbow Warrior.
They have frequent buses running from Bolpur to Rampurhat on that way. Never been on that road, but have heard its a reasonably decent motorable road. As you rightly said, it hugs the railway line all along.
Not heard much on the quality of road between Burdwan and Bolpur via Talit-Guskara.
I would suggest you ride upto Burdwan town. Consult locals in Burdwan town (you can use a break there instead of Shaktigarh). You can always take the Panagarh-Bolpur detour anyway.
Let us know of your experience once you are back.

Thanks Miky ,
Back from a great driving trip from Doars , it was a pleasant road all throughout,
While going up finally I took NH 34 , it was an early morning startup , around
0500 hrs at Airport X-ing , few stops on the way , lunch break at Raigunj , finally
reach Siliguri Darjeeling more around 1730 hours, while coming I took NH 60 at
Moregram , had a night halt at Tarapith , Rampurhat . Started at late morning from
Rampurhat , took a detour at Ilambazar towards Bolpur for a decent lunch , and then
continued on Bolkur - Guskara - Bardhaman road then Via Durgapur expressway
till Kolkata.
Road were exceptionally good on NH 34 , on NH 60 Moregram - Nalhati section a
bit patchy otherwise all good.
Cheers

I have been to "Doars" frequently during last couple of years , this
partcular trip was to visit to fanatastic Eco-Tourism resorts of West Bengal
Forest department.
We started at early in the morning on 27th March, at 5'o clock crossed Airport and
on NH34 , towards Barasat - Ranaghat - Krishnanagar , had our usual stop at
Krishnanagar for breakfast , then continued on - Shantipur - palasi - Baharampur
- Farakka - Malda - Raigunj . one hour stop at Raigunj for lunch , finally
croseed Dalkhola around 1500 hrs , so far road has been single carriage , well
maintained , distinctly marked NH34 . Contrary to all previous reports over
here in Indian Mike , the NH 34 is in super condition .
After Dalkhola it's 4 lane express highway till Bagdogra , smooth expressway , dream
to drive , we stopped at Islampur for evening tea and then to Siliguri , finally
checked into " Mainak" Siliguri for the night .
Next Morning started around 0900 hrs towards lataguri , took Sevoke road till
coronationbridge and then crossed bridge towards Malbazar / Chalsa , straight
road goes towardsGangtok / Sikkim. Here is a Kalibari at Sevoke , where people s
top their vehicles and offer puja , we also did the same .
Reached Latugri somewhere near 1100 hrs, collected our passes for the
resorts and headed towards the first resort at Ramshai , which is known as "
Rashai Rhino Camp " , a few meters ahead of lataguri nature interpretation camp ,
I exited the main raod and took the jungle roadtowards Ramshai and eventually
landed up in a wrong road and finally reached near a hilly fast flowing river with a
unfinished bridge on top , asked the locals and they said that the detour is about few
kms away and cars can easiliy cross the river and go to the other side from where
resort is just 2 minutes away .
I decided to short cut, got down and checked the tyre marks on the river side and then
decided to go ahead, effortlessly I croosed the river with 5 person inside and the
full luggage, Jai ho " Scorpio ".

After crossing the river , within 5 minutes we reached near the entrance of
"Ramshai Rhino Camp " . the resort is set up in a beautiful surroundings with
tea garden on one side , river , jungle and village on other three sides, it's
built on a artficial lake surrounding the resort island, this one just opened in
September last year , there are 4 cottages out of that 3 cottages are given on rent
and 4th one kept for V.I.P s. The packages were inclusive of Lodging , fooding ,
Ox-cart drive to the Medla watch tower , Elephant bathing in the river , Elephant
ride into the forest and finally the local adivasi dance in the evening .
This Eco resort is completely managed and run by locals , only the beat officer oversees
everything , the local young boys was very warm in their hospitality unlike other
private resort . Food was simple but quite good , this the first time I tested " Boreli " fish which is the delicacy of north bengal and was hot favourite of our beloved late
Chief minister .
