Rain in Kolkotta

Lonely planet does not recommend travel to Kolkotta in July due to too much rain .How much is too much?Does it really rain all day and every day?Flooding? This year I went to Kerala against advice and it rained only 1 whole day in 10 in July.A little rain is no problem, but soaked all day every day will make me go somewhere else. Some advice please.

Yes, it's advisable not to travel to Kolkata in the monsoon. This year it was an exception, but generally it rains heavily here. It may span over a couple of hours, the roads get water-logged. I'd rather suggest to come here in October. Durga puja next year starts on 17th Oct, you can plan accordingly.
