Hi,

This is my first post in this forum, although I have been a big fan of IndiaMike for its informative contents on travel related topics and a vast collection of travelogues.

I am planning for a trip to North Bengal in the month of Jan 2011. I would be starting on 7th Jan from Kolkata, have booked Kanchankanya Express till Alipurduar. I have plans to stay at the WBFDC bungalow at Rajabhatkhawa for one day and then start for Jaldapara on the next day evening. I would like to live at Hollong tourist lodge or the one at Jaldapara (Madarihat). After attending the early morning jungle safari the very next morning,we are planning to head towards Lolegaon (via Damdim-Lava) WBFDC cottages and spend the next two days there itself, or may stay a day at Lolegaon and then another day at Kholakam (heard that its a new spot near Rishop).I am thinking of returning via Kalimpong to Siliguri, visiting the Delo.

It would be a trip of 4-5 days max .Please tell me whether this trip can be made without much hassle or physical strain in such a short period. Will it more worth to stay at Jaldapara and skip Rajabhatkhawa for this trip. How can I book the tourist lodges at Jaldapara. Is it easy to get vehicles for going to Lolegaon from Jaldapara as I have seen that these people charge a lot of money for trips in Dooars and hills.

What are the means of travelling from Lava to Lolegaon and Lava to Kalimpong Delo and then back to Siliguri...Please help me out in all this..

Regards,
Sourav

this is entirely your choice. I've been to Rajabhatkhawa WBFDC lodge in Sept 2010, and i really loved the place. Although i was a bit disappointed as Buxa tiger reserve is yet to open this year due to court order, but then a trip to Buxa fort and Jayanti from Rajabhatkhawa really made my day.

Also, please go through other posts in West Bengal forum, there's already a lot of information on north bengal.

Happy Hunting

Thanks a lot Sumangc for your guidance. I would check the respective posts.
Actually,my main concern is whether I would get proper conveyance for going directly to Lava, from Jaldapara I would be spending the first two days of my trip in Jaldapara.

All the places you mentioned are possible to cover within 4 to 5 days. So far my knowledge goes, you got to get advance booking from WBFDC and WBTDC for those FRH particularly FRH at Rajabhatkhawa, Holong etc. However you may get alternative private hotels there. Conveyance wont be a problem. You can hire a car from Alipurduar if you can afford. Otherwise you can get NBSTC buses or Pvt buses plying through these places.

Thanks Debashis for the info.

Well,we have planned to start our trip from Jaldapara and have booked Malangi Lodge of WBFDC for one day. The next day we are planning of either returning back to Siliguri or directly going to Rishyap that very day, spend the night there and then proceed to Lolegaon on the next day as we have a booking at the WBFDC Lodge there, for the next two days. After that we are thinking of returning to Siliguri via Kalimpong, with a one day stay at Kalimpong.

I guess, the weather would be not that harsh in the second week of January whenwe would be making the trip.
