Hi mousourik,

Did you personally stayed in Jelepla village resort? how is it? Whats your opinion? we area family of 6 ( including my 11 month kid and my aged parents and in-laws) and will like stay 1N there while coming from Darjeeling, before proceeding to Kalimpong. Also suggest whether 1N stay at Pedong and 2N stay in Kalimpong is sufficient? What are the places they cover in the day trip and what are the day trip charges in an exclusive vehicle...

Amit, we didn't stay at Jelep La, but Damsung guesthouse instead. But we had a look at the former, its location is superb. It's also recommended by those who stayed there, e.g. IM member wayfarer. i believe that it can't be worse than Damsung. So no need to think twice - book acco there - you won't lose.

Regarding 1N stay at Pedong, i really can't help you a lot. Perhaps the next day you should take the local sight-seeing and ask them to drop you at Kalimpong. Although this might be a little hectic for the kid. Why don't you ring up Jelep La and ask for their opinion ?

Thanks mousourik... I am also planning to stay in Jelepla village resort... you have suggested thats its location is superb.. does it has kanchenjungha view from the resort itself? how far is it from the main market area of pedong... since I will be taking my parents and in laws (senior citizens)....considering this,do you still suggest Jelepla? from where does this sight seeing starts? does the lodge arranges it? or we need to come to the market? whats the price for the sight seeing? what places have you seen from pedong?

as per your suggestion I will stay 2N in pedong ... to make the tour relaxed for the kid... please suggest which places we must see in our 2N stay....

Also please suggest where we can stay in Kalimpong for 2Nights... Delo tourist lodge of DGHC is pretty expensive (1650 in the ground floor) Any idea about other lodges? Alakananda resort?

please reply

Amit, you may find last puja's rates here - towards the end of the trip report. The places to be seen are also mentioned here.

The resort owner will arrange everything. You won't need to go to the market which is quite a distance up. Everything is available there. It's located on a ridge, so the front view is never blocked. i don't think that Kanchenjunga can be seen there.

i've no idea about Kalimpong.

Thank you so much mousourik for your detailed info....I have already read your nice travelogue "The land of Yetis, and Monals, and ….. Beauty"...its very well written and a mustread for people planning the East sikkim....
what I understand is there is no view of Himalayas from the hotels in Pedong...I need to go the view point like ramitey /tinchuley etc...right? the only view I will get is the view of green hills... right? So as per your suggestion jelepla village resort will be a good option....
Considering my family of 4seniors and my 11 month kid...can you suggest where we should stay first...in pedong or in Kalimpong while coming from Darjeeling...I had planned for 3N in Darjeeling, 2N in pedong and 2N in kalimpong...please suggest an itinerary....A relaxed trip will be better...

Regarding Kalimpong hotels, I will call the nos you have given....hill top tourist lodge is under WB tourism...
Apurba1982 has suggested me of WBFDC sailabas in Kalimpong. It has 3 type of DB rooms Jelepla (1000/-), Nathula(1000/-),Rechila(1000/-).... any idea of which will be better?

IMO, you should first go to Pedong, then Kalimpong, then Darjeeling. Why ? Pedong is the quietest. Darjeeling is the easiest for coming down to Shiliguri. Or if you have already booked at Darj, then keep Kalimpong at the last for ease of transport.

And Amit, you won't really repent for booking at Jelep La. So just book it !
