NJP to Kalimpong-29 Nov2007

My husband and I are now in Calcutta, with tickets to take the Darjeeling Mail to NewJaip... to arrive on Thursday morning. We hope to then go on to Kalimpong.
We've been reading of a bandh in the Darjeeling hills. It has apparently been lifted in Kalimpong for now. Are we crazy for planning on taking the train and our chances of getting transport?
Assuming we can find a taxi to take the two of us from NJP to Kalimpong, what would be a reasonable amount to pay? We can probably afford our own, rather than a shared, taxi, but I'd like some idea of what we might have to pay, realizing that the cost may depend on the status of the bandh.
I'll appreciate any advice that may come our way over the next 24 hours.

Just get to NJP and plenty of jeeps/buses go to Kalimpong everyday. If there is a stirke and no traffic is going, there are plenty of nice hotels in Silliguri. Just wait there a few days and once the situation is back, get on. Don't know about Kalimpong, but a jeep to Darjeeling cost me 500. I was alone (it was early Jan and not peak season).

It should be a little less for Kalimpong. I returned via bus from Kalimpong and that was cheap. About 50 Rs or so if i remember correctly.
