There is not much to be seen in Malbazar. It is quit, small, sleepy typical north bengal town. It has a Municipality, College, Tea Gardens and nice Park and a Railway Station (in fact it has two railway Stn. Mal and New Mal). It has quite a few Hotels, one of which is W.B. Govt owned Tourist Lodge. But you can take it as railhead for Dooars. You can make it a base for your Trip to Garumara Sanctuary, Jaldhaka, and other adjoining areas in Dooars. In my personal opinion, Mal has its own charm and it merits tourists' attention.

Re: Malbazar

Malbazar is not a tourist spot but it is a junction. If you want to reach Samsing Suntalekhola - Malbazar is the starting point. Same for Jhalong bindu jaldhaka visit. If you like to visit Gorumara/Chapramari - Chalsa or Lataguri both are the centre point of stay which are also easily accessible from here. But i have heard - there is a homestay named Aranyak - which is a very cheap accommodation (300/- per double bed VIP room) around Mal. But don't know the exact location and contact of booking.

I don’t know when you are reaching Mal. I assume you will reach there early morning. Kanchankanya Express goes directly to New Mal Junction from Sealdah and reaches early morning. The journey from NJP to New Mal is awesome, unforgettable!! If you reach Mal early morning, then your suggested programme will be as follows:

1st Day

- Hire a Auto or Car or Cycle Rickshaw to reach Tourist Lodge
- Check in
- Hire a Vehicle with the help of Lodge Manager
- Take a stroll in the adjoining Park and Tea Garden
- Take Lunch and proceed to Lataguri. The Forest Office, who issues entry pass for Gorumara Sanctuary, is situated at Lataguri.
- Get Entry Pass for the afternoon viewing by paying requisite fees. Please note that issue of Entry Pass is limited to certain number and in no way the Forest Deptt would exceed the prescribed number. Take the help of Driver and act as per his advice.
- You have to take a Local Guide (it is compulsory) by paying extra fees.
- Visit Sanctuary and thereafter attend the Tribal Dance organized by Forest Deptt. The cost is inclusive in the Entry Fee already paid.
- Return to Lodge. End of Day-1

2nd Day

- Leave Lodge early morning after taking Bed Tea. Decide exact time after discussion with the Driver
- Go to Lataguri again. Buy Entry Pass for Chapramarih Sanctuary and proceed to Chapramarih
- After visiting Chapramarih, proceed to Jaldhaka, Paren, Bindu etc. Break Fast on the way. Driver will know the place.
- At Bindu, may enter Bhutan with the permission of the Guard.
- Have lunch at Paren or at some road side Dhaba. Again, the Driver will guide you. Visit Forest Lodge at Jaldhaka, it is located at a nice site.
- On your way back, visit Murthi Forest Lodge just by the side of River Murthi. Spend some time by bank of River Murthi and in the Garden of the Lodge.
- Return to Malbazar. End of 2nd Day.

.3rd Day

- Get up leisurely. Have Break Fast at the Lodge and proceed to Samsing, and then to Rocky Island and finally to Susntalekhola
- Have Lunch at some road side Dhaba
- By afternoon reach Malbazar and spend free time.

If you have time constraint, you may combine 2nd and 3rd day together. But it will be quite hectic!! As regards vehicle, go for dry vehicle on per day basis. Buy gas as per requirement. If you want I can suggest a good Driver, whom I used during my two earlier trips. He is very good. PM me and I will give you his name and contact number etc. Hope, this will help.

Dear Mr. Das... Thanks a lot for your informations... Pls suggest driver name and contact number... We will be a team of 5 people.. How much a dry car cost per day including driver?
I will try to reach there by Kanchankanya Express. It will reach there 10 AM approx. I will go with my 2 years old daughter. So I never want any hectic schedule. Pls suggest which place I may cancel visit if any constraint comes.

I have given the Driver's contact no in PM. I hired a Mahindra Max @ 900/ per day on dry basis. But that was quite sometime back. However, a Maruti omni would be around 500/- or so, I think. If there is a time constraint you can skip Jaldhaka etc., but do no skip Samsing, Rocky Island and Sunthalekhola. But my suggested programme is very much doable. It won't be hectic at all. My team is full of senior citizens and children and we had no pressure at all. So, cheers, Happy journey!

i went there this june
cars (mine was a sumo)are available and best taken on a dry basis
if u book over there it will be a bit cheaper ~800/day
however ,that time being peak season rates may vary and the operators may demand more.
or if u make a booking from kolkata it will cost aroud 1000/day
i stayed in mongpong/zurrantee(a tea estate)/paren/suntaleykhola
trip was of 6 days
try staying at either paren/suntaleykhola(one night at least)- its wonderful staying in the middle of no where.
you wont get that feeling in malbazar
and by the way- if you plan a visit to gorumara watch tower please do so either very early or late in evening(1st and last slots respectively)- by doing that you have the greatest chance of watching game /the animals generally dont prefer coming out in afternoon.
in paren/suntaleykhola- only wb govt forest development corporation has accomodation- you have to book well in advance

You can stay at the Municipality Guest House(UDICHI is the name perhaps) near BDO Office or go straight to PWD Office which is also very near(Nagrakata Division) and book the PWD bunglow..These are excellent condition with veary reasonable rate..but subject to availability.. Otherwise some Pvt. hotels are there too.

For car I once suggested to Budhaditya (fellow IMer) the name of Raju (9733123687) and he indeed quotes the least price.. Rest depends on you.

But my suggestion is you don't need to stay in Malbazar. Go staight to Lataguri,Jhalong, or Suntaleykhola. All of them are within 2 hrs drive with best road quality. And Kanchankanya reaches Newmal not late than 9.45 a.m max.

I have already talked to Raju... But he is asking 1200 for sumo on a dry basis.. I think it's bit high... secondly I need to arrange for another car (gypsy) for forest safari as from Sept, sumo or any other cars will not be allowed to enter into forest.. It costs another 1000 approx....
