Maithon - a peaceful destination to just relax
It was like hibernation
i compelled to cancel five trips . . . Since march - except mandermoni. It was so painful to unpack my bags set for vof. .
Now it's a short but happy weekend for me which i dared not to desire even . . . . I just jumped into it. . . 3 days maithon and boronti trip.
Now i'm from maithon.
Hope can share a happy tr with you friends.

Kolkata to Maithon
And it is fixed anunoy.....
I'm so happy being with IM after such a long break
It's really so painful for me to spend months within rooms..... I was so disheartened !!!! I needed this break badly.... and I got it at last.

I submitted my leave application on wednesday..... said 'yes, I'm going' to me my team and packed bag that night and had a happy sleep.
30th August- we started very early and went upto Shaktigarh- the land of langchaa- without a break.
Than in Panagarh, we faced the compulsory traffic jam but reached without any more hindrance.
'Mai-ka-thaan' means 'Mother's abode'. So is Maithon... River, dam, green hills, jungles ... all to make it beautiful. The Dam is 15,712 ft long and 165 ft. high, specially designed for flood control. It is said that the underground power station, first of its kind, in whole of SouthEast Asia, made it unique of it's kind. Oh!!! we had no prior permission!! so we missed the visit.
Maithon has the biggest reservoir in the Damodar valley Corporation. The lake at Maithon is spread over an area of 65 sq.kms. Though there are not plenty of water now
Some attachments here :
1. At Shaktigarh,
2. The 'Langchaa' break
3. Road to Maithon near Nirsha,
4. The Lake seen from Tourist Lodge,
5. Welcome lobby in Tourist lodge.

We booked Tourist Lodge og WB Tourism. The position is too good, and rooms are also ok with all necessities. Food also served in time, quality of ifh and mutton are very good as they all were local but preparation was not up to the mark.
Position of Majumdar Nivas of DVC is also good, but I think Tourist Lodge offers perfect view. have a look to picture 1.
After lunch, we made a stroll down to the lake. It's always mesmerizing to have a wide view with land and water duet ....
Then it was time for kids.... on the other side of the Barrage (actually you have to enter from this side while coming from Kolkata) there are few shops selling snacks, tea, ice-cream etc.... Who can prevent kids from those green, yellow, red, blue chain of packets !!! yes, those obvious crispy potato chips are also there.
Crossing the food-bazar we went to the river side.... it was full of stone and stone, a little pool of water and a few feeble stream of water are passing amidst the life less stones of different sizes. Little rain this year made this dam and river morose.
Then the little park with clay models of almost all known animals around!!! Elephant, giraffe, Tiger (oh! killing a man), deer, jackal, camel, emu, crane, bear, snake ... everything were there, side by side... at one corner, there was Baul singer too !!!!
Have some funny pics!!!

Kalyaneswari Temple
Quote:
Yes, dada. This time I think little talk for 'little trip'.... though we covered some good places. Started from Maithon with surroundings, then Panchet, Garh Panchkot and finished with Baranti. I'll narrate .... hope you'll like it.
Day 2 was in two different mood and set. first half for local sight seeing and second half for fishing in Maithon lake-island.
Kalyaneswari temple is a famous one in Maithon, 6 km away from the Maithon dam. The name Maithon i.e. Mai or Ma or mother's 'than' (abode) refers to Goddes Durga i.e. Ma Kalyaneswari of this famous Kalyaneswari temple, considered to be very powerful deity. The temple was erected in the early 1900's. In every Durga Puja, a great Puja and fair are organized there. A big compound behind the temple can accommodate a good no. of worshipers. There are wooden structures for offering animals for puja (boli
) too. People used to tie pebbles in a tree inside there as a prayer to fulfill their desire. We reached there in the morning. Like all other temple zone, it has a welcome gate, shops with Puja items- sweets, flowers, red-cheli, Kalyaneswari idol statues, photos etc. etc. and of course the calling of sellers..... But all were in low tone.
On right side of the temple there is a small stream flowing along big boulders.

Thanks a lot sagarika. I'll post some more soon.
Panchet and GP will be next and Baranti at the end

We were in Maithon for 2 days and Baranti 1 day. Three days for the total circuit is enough. You can choose staying at Maithon/ Garh panchkot/ Baranti and can cover Biharinath, Jaychandi Hill in addition.
