I should have posted this earlier…
  • Expectation: mountains and jungles of North Bengal
  • Challenge: 7 days (that includes travelling to and from Kolkata)
Well, that’s the number of days I could afford before spending another week with friends and relatives in Kolkata.

Did my little research on the net and off course here on indiamike, my friends suggested WB forest department’s bungalow is the place that I must stay, so on…

Wanted a have budget vacation, so stressed more on accommodation, and accordingly, caught hold of a reliable agent, again from an indiamike discussion thread.

After few frantic phone calls, got my bookings done, and my itinerary was all set.

December 18, 2010 thru December 23
  • Day 1: Kalimong, WB forest department acco.
  • Day 2: Lava, WB forest department acco.
  • Day 3: Rishyop, Sylvan Rerteat (pvt)
  • Day 4: Lataguri, on the highway, just outside of Gorumara forest
  • Day 5: Kalipur, WB forest department acco., one of the many eco-tourism lodges the dept. has set inside Gorumara forest

Net-net it was a very satisfying trip for me. Glad that I could combine both hill and forest in the same trip. Maybe I’ve missed few on the way (example, Neora falls), but then there’s always a next time.

Here'r few pics:

If possible, please edit your thread and put the location of photos (resort/hotel pictures only). Then we can easily identify where are these hotels.

Hi Subhajyoti,

We are planning for Garumara , Lataguri areas. Appreciate if you can tell how to reach (direction) these two places and booking contact number (give both Kolkata and direct Hotel number if any) to get the availability and booking. We know the road till Malbazar-> Chalsa -> Right turn upto Lataguri (via gurumara entrance).
1) Bono Akorshon, Lataguri.
2) Kalipur, Eco tourist lodge, WB forest dept.

I would advice you to only stay in the places run by the forest dept.

I am afraid, I'm not carrying any contact nos. However, you'll get enough information on their website - http://www.wbfdc.com/Our_Nature_Resorts.asp#.

Also, another link will be of help - http://www.jalpaiguriwildlife.org/gev.html.

Biplob is a reliable guy and looks after the marketing of that place and other hotels in the Lataguri region. It would make sense to do a bit of research from the above-mentioned links and then go for the bookings
