Kolkata is the best for any kind of food
Kolkata is the best place in the world for any kind of food. All kinds of indian veriety are available.Including those, Oriental,Continental, Bangladeshi food are also available here.No other city in India would offer you plenty of beef variety. These are available in Collin Lane, Rajabazar, Howrah Pilkhana & off course in Park Circus and Khiddirpore. Different variety of Bengal and Marwary sweets are available in Kolkata including famour ROSOGOLLA, Mishti Doi and Shondesh. Among all the cities in India, I like Kolkata, the best. Transport is also good. The great yellow taxi cab available in abundance, anytime. There are plenty of beatiful places in West Bengal. I visit at least once in a year to Kolkata.
This time I have planned to visit Kolkata by my car directly from Dhaka in June 2009. I miss those small Kochris with pumpkin potato subzi, the light gravy oozing out of the holes of the container made with Saal leaves. Like a phuchka you made a hole in the middle of the Kachoris and stuff the subzi... ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... |

Excuse me a second, Jyoti-da, while you wipe off your drool... what is this dish you so lovingly describe? Where can we eat it?

Dear dancer this type of Kochuris are sold at shops popularly known as Telebhajar dokun(shop selling oil fried snacks), these are found in the residential localities specially in north Kolkata. These were eaten along with Jalebis(Jilipi in Kolkata lingo) as breakfast on Sundays. I will try to find out if there is any such eatery/shop near Esplanade.
Nasim bhai, you seem to be having a bout of Kolkatitis, not a rare thing and usually not fatal. |

ho chi minn sarani used to be Theatre road if my memory serves me right. I read that the cafe dedicated to Tagore serves mostly continental foods which were Tagore's favourites.
There is a book called "Thakurbarir Ranna" Heard a lot about Bhaja Hari Manna, got to try it next time. Suruchi at Rippon street used to be run by a ladies association, the food served here were very typically Bengali home cooking type. |
